The soft beeps of the heart monitor rhythmically fill the silent room. Tsukiyama sleeps in the hospital bed in pale blue scrubs. You place your hand on his forehead gently as you smooth back his hair. You sigh softly and purse your lips as you watch Tsukiyama's broad chest rise and fall.
A man in a white lab coat enters the room. Uta nods to you and walks outside of the small room. You take Tsukiyama's soft hand gently in yours, and you watch the doctor patiently. His blue eyes scan a clipboard as he sits down in a chair. You notice him chewing on the inside of his bottom lip as he adjusts the chair so it's facing towards you. Everything moves in slow motion as the noise of the wheels on the white tiled floor move towards you. He reaches into the breast pocket of his coat and pulls out a pair of black framed glasses. As places them on his nose, he pushes them up, and he then runs his fingers through his black hair. You see streaks of silver as his fingers comb through. He then tilts his head up and makes eye contact with you. Your hand subconsciously tightens around Tsukiyama's, and you realize you are holding your breath."Hello. You must be (Y/n). I've heard a lot about you." He says with a curt smile. His breath smells of coffee and you notice the small wrinkles around his eyes.
He's American.
"Yes I am. It's nice to meet you Doctor..." You pause slightly.
"Dr. Blake." He smiles again.
"Ah. Dr. Blake. A pleasure to meet you." You continue with a smile.
"Yes. You as well. Now, about Tsukiyama's condition."
You bite your lip and your stomach turns with anticipation. You hadn't seen Tsukiyama in a week. Today was the first day you were allowed to visit him.
"Tsukiyama suffered a substantial amount of injuries, and it took a few hours for him to stabilize. However, Tsukiyama has informed us that you are aware of his...condition...so it is alright if I let you know that he is regenerating just fine, and he should be out in a week. We just need him to stay here so we can monitor him, to make sure everything is healing properly." He says.
Dr. Blake stands up and reaches his large hand out. You politely shake his hand as you smile and thank him.
"It's probably alright if you try and wake him up." He says as he exits the room. The door shuts and you take your place next to Tsukiyama. You lean down and whisper his name into his ear. He shifts and slowly opens his eyes. He blinks quickly as he tries to focus. His violet eyes shift and meet yours, and he smiles brightly at you, but you can still see the exhaustion in his facial features. He's pale and he has dark circles around his eyes. His cheeks are slightly sunken in.
He looks so...so frail.
"Mon fleur. What a pleasant surprise." His voice is soft and shaky as he speaks. You smile and nod as you once again take his hand in yours.
Before you realize, tears are spilling down your cheeks. You are overwhelmed with emotion and you are a sobbing mess. Tsukiyama squeezes your hand tightly and he traces his thumb on the back of your hand gently."It's okay, (y/n). I'll be alright." He smiles weakly.
You very gently lean down and kiss him on the forehead. He breathes in and smiles up at you as you pull away. Very hesitantly, he shifts himself up so he is sitting up completely. He begins to move his legs to the side of the bed.
"Tsukiyama? What are you doing? Lay back dow-"
"Non. I can't suffer resting in that bed any longer. Especially when I'm in the presence of such a beautiful woman." He says slyly.
You smile at his compliment. Even in his current state, he never ceases to impress or to make you feel special. You quickly stop smiling when you notice the features on his face change. His eyebrows furrow and his eyes snap shut in pain. He frowns and exhales sharply as his strong hands grip the edge of the bed. His forehead glistens with sweat as his face turns red.
My poor Tsukiyama.
You rush over to his side and you sit on the bed next to him.
"Please just relax. It's okay." You say soothingly. He relaxes his face, but his eyes remain closed. He gently shifts his weight, and he leans his head on your shoulder. He snakes his hand into yours and the two of you sit in silence.
"I'm so sorry." he mutters.
"Why are you sorry? I'm alright."
"This has proven that I am not capable of protecting you on my own." He says. Sadness lacing his voice as he speaks.
You stand up and face him. You gently cup his face in your hands and you stare into his tired eyes. You lean forward and press our lips softly against his.
"I love you so much Tsukiyama. You have taken care of me so well. You don't have to do it on your own." You whisper to him.He sighs and only gently nods. A knock on the door is heard, and a short woman enters. She's older, with a few gray hairs peeking out of her dark brown hair.
"I'm sorry for the interruption, but visiting hours are over, and I need to take Tsukiyama's vitals." She says kindly.
You both nod and you turn to Tsukiyama. You kiss him goodbye and you tell him you'll be back to visit soon.
"You know you aren't supposed to be up yet, Shuu." You hear the nurse say to Tsukiyama as you shut the door.
Lost in your thoughts, you forget about Uta waiting for you.
"How'd it go?"
His voice startles you and your eyes flicker to his quickly.
"Oh. Uh. It was nice. Good to see him." you say.
The rows of hospital lights pass over your head. You can hear the faint beeping of monitors as you pass each room.
"It can be depressing, I know. He'll be alright. Let's go get some coffee, and something to eat." Uta says as he licks his lips. You nod and smile, as the two of you exit the hospital.
