Music listened to : Titanic - Hymn of the sea

Murdoch sat in his chair watching the sun enter his small apartment. He heard talking from his sister and Edward who had been staying with him since Gillies had been taken. He could feel the stubble on his face as his eyes grew sore with each passing day. Bringing up a shaky hand he ran through his messy hair and felt the tears gather in his sorrow eyes.

Mina looked over at her brother and felt the pang in her heart, seeing him so low, so helpless was a sight she wasn't used to see. She felt Edward rub her arm but she couldn't focus on him until Gilles was back with William. They had ran out of time and the thought made her stomach curl with sickness. William would help his colleagues bring Gillies to the noose and there wasn't a thing he could do to stop it. Walking up to William she bent down and grabbed the hand which was covering his face. The look of heartbreak on his features made her want to kill each and every one of them.

"I can't do this Mina" he voice cracked as he spoke to his sister, for a long time the only person Murdoch ever truly cared for was Mina. His sweet little sister who he would chase around their small house growing up. Her long hair flowing behind her as she squealed in delight as he wrapped his arms around her and spun her around.

James Gillies had snuck up on him, taking his heart and soul before he could even understand what had happened. The idea of living in a world without James stabbed his heart and made him want to vomit. He grew past caring if people knew he liked men, didn't care enough to be held back by his sister as he grabbed the cell keys and charge into the back and free Gillies. But as much as Mina wanted for that to happen she couldn't allow William to endanger himself like that. He would be hung right next to Gillies and Mina thought she was being selfish but, like her brother, she couldn't live in a world without her only brother.

"We'll figure this out" she looked him square in the eyes "he won't be hung I promise you Will"

Mina helped her brother shave the next morning as he fixed his suit; one of the many Gillies had bought him. She wiped of the excess foam and placed his cap on his head. On the outside he looked fine, missing a few hours' sleep perhaps, but he looked fine.

"Now remember, head up high"

He nodded and kissed her forehead "thank you" he then looked over her head to see Edward looking over at the siblings "thank you Edward"

Edward gave a salute to the detective as he slipped on his white shirt.

"You will look after her won't you" Mina clutched close to her brother, tucking her head inside his suit jacket feeling the tears brim her eyes "in case anything happens, you will look after her"

Nodding his head towards the detective. Murdoch could tell Edward would look after his sister but any means possible. Hugging her tightly to him he closed his eyes and just for a second wanted to forget anything was happening, and just let himself be embraced by his sibling. Her hair smelled like sweet cherries bringing him back to the past as they hid from their drunken father in his room. He would hold her close and sing her softly to sleep. Edward left the two in peace as Murdoch stroked his sister's hair. Hearing his sister sniffle they both knew as much as she would try and stop him if Gillies hung, Murdoch wouldn't be able to carry on with his life. Knowing the only man he ever loved had been hung. She caught sight of the newspaper on the bedside cabinet with the news of Gillies hanging.
