Not long after Pam texted me the address I arrived at her house. I found everything okay. It was far from the school, lower Gotham where all the ex-thugs and ex-Arkham patients live. I walked up to Pam's front door and knocked. I waited a few seconds then the door started to open. A tall fit red headed woman was standing in the door way. Her hair was red like Pam's hair. "Hi, you must be Monday, I'm Ivy, Pam's mom." She smiled. I smiled back.
"Hi, I'm guessing Pam told you I was coming?" I said
"She sure did honey bun." She said still smiling.
I don't know why but there was something off about Ivy. She seemed... way too nice. "Can you let Pam know I'm here?" I asked.
"Yes I can sugar. I'll be right back sweetie." She said very cheery and walked down a hall. I assumed Pam's room was down the dark hall. Soon after Ivy left down the hall she came back with Pam behind her. "Hey Pam." I said
"Hey Monday, any trouble getting here?" she asked.
"None at all." I said with a smile.
Pam smiled. "Should we go to my room?" she asked. I nodded and followed her to her room down the hall Ivy went down to get Pam. I followed Pam into a dark bedroom. I looked around the room astonished. Her room was a dark shade of green and it had vines and plants grown around inside of it.
"Do you like?" she asked, noticing the look on my face. I slowly nodded. "My mum is helping me grown it... the vines." I smiled.
"Pam I've got to ask you something." I said. She nodded and sat on the large sofa by her window. She gestured for me to sit down with her and I did so.
"I already know what you're going to ask. You want to know why I covered for you." She said. I nodded. "Your father paid me."
My heart skipped a beat when I heard this. How could she know my father? Did she know who he was? Did she know he was The Joker? "How do you know my father?" I asked. She stared at me and smiled.
"He's a family friend." She replied. "You see my mom and your mom used to be friends. Back when she was all over your father... that lasted for about five years then your father got locked up in a padded cell at Arkahm. The cell that was right next to my mom. Our parents were criminals. They've killed, they've robbed, they've raped. They've done these awful things. They made it seem like they could do just about anything. Your mom, Harley, went to Arkahm to get my mom, Ivy, she got my mom out and then she heard your dad and it seemed like everything was happening again with them two. My mom saw the look in Harleys eyes and she knew that Harley had fallen in love with Jonas all over again." She said with a pause. Then she continued once again, "My mom said it seemed like everything was happening all over again. Another five years went by and they were still together. They were very dysfunctional. God it was awful. They kept trying to kill each other over and over again. Its like some days they would be good other days they hated each other."
Pam stopped and got up. She left the room and then came back with two subway subs and two Dr. Peppers. "How'd you know to get those?" I asked. She pulled out her phone and showed me the text. "It vibrated, I figured this is what she was telling me." She said holding up the food.
"ohhh my bad." I said.
"It's cool" she replied. She handed the sub to me and I took it. I unwrapped it and took a bite. It was good. I grabbed my drink and took a sip of it. "remind me to tell your mom thanks before I leave." I said. Pam nodded and laughed a bit. I checked my phone and saw I had a text.
"When are you going to be home?" was the text displayed across my screen.
I texted back: "Just a few minutes, leaving now." I clicked off my phone after the text sent. "As much as I'd love to stay I've got to go. Bruce is getting anxious and wants me home." I said
"Okay well I'll call you later and finish telling you the story?" she asked. I nodded.
I got home a little after ten. I had no idea that so much time had passed talking to Pam. It was like the phrase "time flies when your having fun", although in this case it was "time flies when your hearing your new friends back story on your demented murderous criminal father and mother along with her mother." I bet no one has ever thought of that one before.
I walked through the door of the manor and Alfred stood at the door. Bruce probably wanted him to. "Hello Monday. How is everything?" Alfred asked.
"Everything is pretty good Alfred.. Is everything good with you?" I replied. Alfred just nodded.
"Master Bruce would like to see you in the Library. He needs to talk with you about something."
"Okay Alfred, thanks for letting me know." i said
"It's my pleasure Ms. Wayne."
When Alfred said this a cold shiver went down my spine. It suddenly didn't feel right to be considered a Wayne. It sort of felt like i was betraying my mom by taking the name Wayne and casting away Quinnzel. I smiled at Alfred and began to walk to the kitchen. I knew Bruce wanted to talk with me but i was hungry. I opened the fridge door and pulled out a bowl of pasta. "My favourite!" i muttered quietly.
I put the pasta in the microwave and heated it up. Once the pasta was done i grabbed a fork and then bowl and i headed down stairs to Bruces library.
