Chapter 14: Ryan’s POV
I caught Anika just as her head almost hit the hard cement floor, and pulled her over to the wall with me. I sat down, with my back against the wall and placed her head on my lap. I fanned her off with my hand to the best of my ability, hoping this would wake her. I began to grow worried after a few good minutes had passed and she had still not awoken. I started chanting her name and shaking her slightly and suddenly her eyes started to flicker open. Her mouthed opened slightly and she let out a small whine and I attempted to sit her up. After she regained her consciousness, she looked up at me with surprised questionable eyes.
“You fainted.” I said and she just stared blankly ahead.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to... It’s just the blood.” She stated in a quite, worried voice.
“There’s no need to be sorry Anika, it’s not your fault.” She began weeping once more and then threw her head into my lap. This took me by surprise, and I just stared down at her contemplating what to do or say when finally my hand reached down to her hair and started brushing it from her face.
“I’m so sorry.” I said trying to comfort her to the best of my ability. After a few minutes she stood up, walking to the sink to start cleaning her wound. She stopped crying, and put on a strong face but I knew deep down inside it was an act and once I left she would feel the pain once more.
“Is there anything I can help you with?” I questioned approaching her from behind. She stared back at me through the mirror and just shook her head no and went back to cleaning up the blood. I started walking my way to the door, when she turned around and called out my name, I turned around to look at her and then she said,
“Thank you.”
I looked at her in confusion and then she sighed in deeply and spoke some more.
“I know I probably put you in a lot of trouble with the stunt I pulled and I know you staying down here for this long with me probably didn’t help either.” Her eyes grew sad, but she quickly froze up, not allowing herself to show any more emotion.
“It’s really not a problem; I know this isn’t easy for you. I can handle whatever happens.” And with that I walked out the door, locking it behind me. In all honesty though, I was afraid, terrified even of what Malachi might do, you never know for sure with him.
I walked slowly up the stairs, awaiting my fate. Before I even touched the door knob Malachi swung it opened and grabbed me by the top of the shirt pulling me through the door. Instantly I was pinned against the wall with his hand pressed to my forehead making it impossible for me to move.
“Dad…” I said slowly, waiting for the worst. “What did I do wrong?”
He looked harshly at me as he heard me say those words and then slammed his other hand into the wall, barely missing my ear.
“What did you do wrong? WHAT DID YOU DO WRONG!?” He shouted making Bria and Sarah, who were still on the sofa, jump in surprise. I began shaking, expecting my death was coming soon when I felt his hand lift from my head. I opened my eyes and he just stood there watching me, laughing as loud as he could.
“Look at you, you little pussy. I thought I raised a man! Pathetic, you’re just pathetic. Take Bria and Sarah back down stairs and get your girly ass out of my face.”
I couldn’t believe my ears, I could care less what he had to say, but he wasn’t going to kill me, at least not yet, and that’s all I cared about. I scurried over to the girls grabbing them by the arm, all the while having a huge smile plastered across my face. The words that Anika spoke “Fuck Malachi” was on instant repeat in my head, and the sensation it gave me felt great.
