"thanks."

I notice Jason checking out Melly the whole car ride. It's weird. My brother liking my friend. How cliché.

We arrive at my house and I park out front. "Nice house too." She laughs. We walk inside and I notice my parents aren't home yet. They must be shopping. We go upstairs and walk into my room. "Woah." Melly gasped as she dropped her bag. "What?"

"Your room. It's totally different than I expected it to be." She laughed. "What do you mean?" She's confusing me. "I expected it to be more grungier."

"Oh. Do you mean like my outfit?" I laughed. She nodded. "That's because I've never dressed like this before." I laughed. "Well you certainly pull it off."

We went downstairs and ate a snack and went back into my bedroom. Melly asked for my phone number and put my contact in her phone. We finished our homework in 30 minutes and then had a long time to just talk. She told me about herself and Alison.

"What about Gabe?" I questioned. She rolled her eyes. "Gabe is annoying. He's like the leader of our group or whatever." That made sense. I kind of got that vibe from him. "He seems like a player." I blurted. "Yeah, he's a huge flirt. But oddly enough, he doesn't have a girlfriend." Wow. "I thought he would have a girlfriend." I admitted. She nodded in agreement, "he's probably trying to get with you."

I don't understand why though.

In my deep thoughts, I don't notice Melly get up and roam around my room. "Who are they?" She snaps me out of my trance.

I look to what she's pointing at. She's leaning in my bay window, pointing at the Polaroids taped up to the walls. A warm smile grows on my face. "My friends." I simply say. She nods and continues examining them. Her feet bring her to my vanity where she picks up the picture frame and smiles. "You were right. That isn't your old style."

I grab my phone and decide to text them about my day.

Rosemary to Besties:
Rosemary: survived the first day!

Rosemary to Sam:
Rosemary: so I dressed in my new style, met a group of friends I guess. One of them is at my house right now. Her names Melly. And there's a boy, Gabe. He walked with me to my classes, carried my books and made a girl move from her seat so I could sit with him.

Sam: I TOLD YOU! YOU BETTER GET IT MARY!

I laugh at her response and turn to Melly who now sits on my bed again. "What do you like to do for fun?" She asks. I ponder and think up an answer. "I like reading I guess." Reading. How boring. Melly looks confused. "You ever been to a party?"

I shake my head and she gapes at me. I never was invited to a party. With Jerry, Margaret and Sam around, I never desired to go to a party. They would always hang out with me. "Well I went to a bonfire thing one time with my friend Sam but, never a real party." She looks shocked. "There's one this Friday. Come with me." She begs. Would my parents even let me go to a party. "Who's house is it at?" If I ask questions, it'll give me time to think of how to ask my parents. "Gabe's."

I kind of want to go to the party now.

"I don't know if my parents will let me." I complain. She sighs and comes up with a plan. "Just say you're spending the night with me. That's not a lie, we can sleepover at my house after the party." She retorts. "My parents haven't met you."

"When they get home, we can go down and meet them." She smiles. "Do I need to make a good impression?" She questions. I nod and she walks to my closet. After scanning the articles, she pulls off a pink t shirt with some light blue jeans. She ditched her outfit and slid on mine. "There. Clothes make a big impression" she smiles. I get up and change my outfit too. They'd probably have a fit if they knew I wore that to school today.
