Today, I'm just out of it. I'm not really paying attention to anything in class. I'm doodling. I don't really care today. I've gotten some compliments on my outfit. I went with black leggings, a maroon t-shirt dress, and some black combat boots. I pulled my straight hair up into a ponytail and applied little makeup. I just wasn't feeling it today. I'm just ready for school to be over so I can go shopping with Sam. It feels like it's forever until the last bell rings. But finally, it does.

I immediately stand up and find Sam in the hallway. I nudge her arm and ask, "am I following you?" She shook her head, "I got a ride with Margaret this morning so we could ride together." I nodded and noticed Jason had just spotted us and joined us. I walked through the doors of the school and rummaged through my bag to find my keys. Finally, when I felt the clicker in my palm and pressed the unlock button and opened my door. Sam climbed in the passenger seat and Jason sat in the back. I cranked the heat up and looked behind me before backing out of the parking space.

I almost turned the way I go home out of habit but then I remembered that we're going shopping. I pull into the outlet mall parking lot and find a space decently close. "Hey, Mike said he's at the mall so I'm gonna chill with him." Jason said getting out of the car. I nodded and preceded to tell him I'll text him when and where to meet up.

Sam and I first go in H&M. I love that store because they have lots of cute clothes for low prices. "This is cute." Sam says holding up a yellow shirt sleeve shirt. It has lace trimming at the bottom. I know Sam doesn't think it's cute. She thinks it's cute for me. "You actually think it's cute, or you think it's cute for me?" I laugh. She smiles and hangs it back up. "I'm actually thinking about changing how I look." I say matter-of-factly. She raises and eyebrow and looks at me. "Ooh, were being daring are we?" Sam teased. I rolled my eyes at her.

"I'm gonna start fresh and different." I followed. Sam was someone whose style I would absolutely die to have. She's always been the edgier one, the more alternative one. Never very girly. She wore things that I've never really worn before and I secretly wish I could own that style like she does. "Well, what kind of look are you going for?" She questioned. "I wanna dress like you." I blurted. She looked at me with a satisfied look. "Say no more." She winked before walking around the store picking up things left and right. I tried to keep up with her as she piled things on top of her arms. Once she was finished, she turned to me and smiled. "That's good enough for this store." I giggled and followed her to cash register. After I paid, we walked out of H&M and noticed Sephora. She brought me in there and I gasped at the prices but she said she would help pay. I ended up leaving Sephora with 2 foundations, contour and highlight, lipsticks, eyeliner, and eyebrow makeup. I thought she was crazy because I don't know how to do all that makeup. But she was helping me so I went with it. We stopped by a few more stores where I got some new clothes, makeup, and shoes. I spent a lot of money. But, it's for Minnesota. I texted Jason and told him to meet up with me and Sam at the front of the mall and he told us he'd be right there. We waited at the front of the mall for about 10 minutes before Jason actually shows up. "I thought you said you'd be right here." I scoffed. "Mike was getting some girls number!" He defended. I rolled my eyes and look at Sam. "Boys." She groaned. I joined her in laughter and Jason flicked me. We hopped in my car and pulled out. "I'm hungry." Jason sang. "Are you hungry?" I asked Sam. "I could eat."

I put on my blinker and turned down the road and headed to In-N-Out Burger. We parked and went inside the vacant joint. There wasn't a line so we walked straight to the counter and was greeted by a girl named Sharie.

"I'd like a plain hamburger, fries, a cherry cola and a chocolate milkshake." I ordered. She punched some buttons and looked back up waiting for the next order. I stepped aside and Jason leaned against the counter. "I'll take a bacon cheeseburger combo with a Cola." He said looking at the hanging menu. Sam moved up and ordered a hamburger combo with a Cola and a strawberry milkshake. Jason pulled out his wallet, "it's on me." He said before stepping back up to the counter. We thanked him and waited for the Sharie to complete the order. She repeated back to us what we wanted and after we confirmed it she told Jason the total and he handed her the money. I grabbed Sam's arm and hunted the place for a good table. I found a booth in the left corner and went to save it for us. "I'm gonna help Jason bring the food." Sam said as she scooted out of the booth. I pulled out my phone and responded to my mom's texts.

Mom: Rosemary, are you and Jason done shopping yet? It's kind of late.

Rosemary: yeah mom, sorry I forgot to text you. We were hungry so we stopped to get burgers. That's where we are now.

Mom: okay sweetie! I'll see you when you get home! Drive safe!

I laughed and checked Instagram while waiting for Sam and Jason. Once I heard footsteps, I looked up to see Jason coming with a tray of food. I clapped my hands and moved so there was room for everyone to sit. We divided up the food and began eating. I love this place. It reminds me of fun and friends. It reminds me of Sam.

"You're gonna be hot in Minnesota." Sam winked at me. I laughed and flipped my hair. "I'll be irresistible." I joked. She shoved a fry in her mouth and looked back to me. "You absolutely have to keep me updated on EVERYTHING." She looked sternly at me. "I will. I promise." I nodded. "If anything gritty happens, you know you can tell me. I won't tell Margaret and Jerry." She assures me. I love having a friend like her. I can tell her anything. She won't judge me on it either.

We finish our burgers and pull out on the road. "So I'm taking you back home?" I asked. "I'll tell my folks that I'm spending the night with you. That okay?" She says looking at her phone. "Of course." I smile and take a sip of my cherry cola. I check the time on my phone. 9:38. I'm usually getting ready for bed at this time.

My mother greets Sam as she comes in and I notify her that Sam is spending the night. She nods and goes back to cleaning up the kitchen. We close my bedroom door and lock it behind us. After sitting out bags down we both flop on the bed. "I'm serious Rose. You better tell me everything." She breaks the silence. "Why do you keep saying that?" I laugh. "Cause' with us not around. You might get into trouble. And I want to know all the juicy details." She grins. "On a serious note, you know you can tell me anything. I won't tell Margaret or Jerry about it either cause, they're our friends but you know them. They are obedient and well rounded." She laughed. I nodded, agreeing. Margaret and Jerry are great friends. But they're very goody-two-shoes like. They don't approve of wild behavior or self-expression. "You're the only person that knows about my wild side so I want to be yours too." She follows. I wink.

We talk about the "trouble I'm going to get into" in Minnesota until we fall asleep.

And we overslept. I woke up and realized it was 12 o'clock. I shook Sam awake and notified her of late we are for school and she groans. "Let's just skip. We've already missed like half the day." She pointed out. I've never skipped school before. But, she has a point. We've already missed half the day.

So instead of going to school. We ordered Chinese and watched Netflix all day.

We talked about the possibilities in Minnesota. "Ooh! What if you get a boyfriend?" She gasped. I threw my head back in laughter. "Probably not." I've never had a boyfriend in my life. I don't even know how a relationship really works. But her scenarios got funnier and funnier. "What if you get arrested?" She joked. I can't see myself in that situation. I'm not that kind of girl. But she continues to joke about what could happen.

"Are you guys ever gonna see me?" I asked. "Of course. Well try to go out to Minnesota and you can always come back to Colorado and visit." She smiled. I nodded. I hope we don't lose contact. I know that I'll probably make new friends. But Sam is a friend that I definitely don't want to lose. "If you ever need some advice, you know you can call me." She assured.
