Five hours after leaving our house, we arrived in whatever town it is Tom lives in, I don't give a crap to be honest. At first glance it looked alright, but as we drove down the main street, it seemed to only get worse.
Finally we got out of the scabby city and into a rural area.
Soon we pulled up a dirt road. As we drove, I noticed how red the dirt was. It looked set ablaze with fire, even though it was just red dirt, not actually on fire.
As it turns out, the dirt road was actually a drive way and we pulled up at a large farm house.
"Now, it's not as swanky as your old place, but it's one of the best this town has to offer..." He shrugged off.
I stepped out of the car and instantly felt the sun blaze down on me, even though Spring had only recently started.
"Jeez, it's hot." Wyatt complained.
"Mate, we got a pool in the yard you can cool down in once you get all settled in." Tom said. "My misses will show you to your rooms. West, can I have a yarn with you for a bit mate, bring Winnie if you want."
I followed Tom inside to a room that was decked out like a man cave.
"This is the only salvation for us blokes West." He said.
"What?"
"I've got thirteen daughters from the age of five up. It sucks shit mate." He explained. "They're not allowed in here, you and your brothers are always welcomed to lag off in here but, and I don't mean have a fap, I mean just chill out, I don't know if you use the same slang out in the city."
"I know what lag off means." I chuckled, taking a seat on one of the leather couches, sitting Winnie on my lap.
"My girls are at school at the moment and Kelly's gonna pick them up in the van, so they'll be home in about twenty minutes. That's why I didn't tell you blokes to get your shit outta the ute. Kel will show ya's to your rooms when she gets here." He said. "I thought I'd tell ya a bit about my girls."
I nodded.
By the end of the conversation I found out he had thirteen daughters, Alexis, Jake, Miah, Taylor, Fee, Hayley, Jess, Kate, Harriet, Emma, Belle, Codie and Bailee.
Alexis is eighteen, Jake is sixteen like me, Miah is fifteen, so is Taylor, Fee is thirteen, Hayley is eleven, Jess and Kate are nine, Harriet is eight, Emma is six and Belle, Codie and Bailee are five.
"Daddy! Jake's covered in mud again!"
"And here they are now." He said, getting up and walking out of the room, I followed behind closely, holing Winnie's hand.
"Alexis, your sister plays this thing called sport, it means a shit tonne of dirt, so you can suck it up." He said. "Girls, these are the kids I was telling you about. They'll be living with us from now on."
My brothers, sister and I all stood side by side as the girls looked us up and down.
The only one who came forward was covered in a thick layer of the bright red dirt from outside.
"Hey mate, I'm Jake." She smiled.
"I'm West, this is Winnie and these are my brothers Wyatt and Wade." I said to the basketball singlet wearing blonde.
"Jake, West's in your year at school." Tom smiled, winking in my direction.
"Awesome, do you play any sports? If not I'm afraid I can't associate myself with you." She said.
"I play rugby league, ice hockey, basketball, baseball, soccer, I'm a very good long distance, mid distance and sprint runner... And I'm a swimmer as well." I said nervously.
"Looks like we'll get along just fine mate." She said, breaking out into a smile.
