We got back to the farm house at around one in the morning. I walked into the house holding Sammie, Tom following behind me.
"Thomas Alan Wynters and West Ethan Harrison. Where the hell were you two?" Kelly and Jake demanded.
"Getting my little girl back. She was alive. That bitch Amber lied to me, her whole family was in on it. Amber just handed her over with no arguments." I said directing to the sleeping one year old in my arms.
"Aww, look at her!" Jake whispered.
"She's gorgeous West." Kelly smiled. "I'll grab one of the girls old cots from the shed for her to sleep in."
She walked out to the back yard.
Jake and I walked up to our room and I held Sammie close to me.
I sat in the desk chair and faced towards Jake who was sitting on the end corner of the bed.
"So Erin was right. Amber lied." She sighed. "I would say dna tests are in order, but just looking at that little girl all I can see is you."
"Jake, meet Samantha-Jayne Rose Adelaide Harrison. Or Sammie Rose Harrison as we shortened it to." I smiled.
"Why'd you shorten it?" She asked.
"It seemed too long. On her birth certificate it's full length, but just so we're not always having to write Samantha-Jayne Rose Adelaide Harrison on things we shortened it. Legally she's both." I shrugged.
"When's her birthday?"
"The first of May, like me. She was the best birthday present I ever got." I smiled. "Amber and I broke up about five months into her pregnancy. We were fifteen and it was all so weird to us." I paused. "I promised her I'd still be there for the baby, but I just couldn't be with someone I had no feelings for. It was a mutual understanding that neither of us had feelings for one another and we were just together for the baby, but we decided enough was enough... Four months later on my birthday Sammie was born."
"I love you West Ethan Harrison. And I love your daughter too, I'll treat her like she's my own." She smiled.
"I love you too Jake Holden Wynters. And I love our foetus." I grinned.
"Don't let Wyatt hear you, remember, he thinks we should call it sperm." She giggled.
We just sat there smiling at one another.
"Well you two are happy." Alexis said walking in. "Aww! Who's this little angel?"
"Sammie. My daughter." I said.
"I thought she was... You know... Dead?"
"I did too." I sighed. "Amber lied."
"Oh, well mum wanted me to tell you that she'll have to go to school with you tomorrow. Both mum and dad have work and I've got my first day at tafe, plus she's too young to start at Winnie's day care, she's already checked with the school, they said it's fine."
"How'd she check at one in the morning?"
"She's best friends with principal Mayhew. All it takes is a phone call." She shrugged. "Oh, and she's bringing the cot up now. It's only one of those weird ones you can fold up and take on holiday and shit, so yeah. Night Jake. Night Jake's hot daddy boyfriend."
And with that she left.
"She knows she can call me West... Right?" I asked.
"Yeah. She prefers to call you 'Jakes hot daddy boyfriend' though." She laughed.
"I've noticed."
"Okay kids, here you go. Sleep tight, I assume Alexis told you the deal for tomorrow, so get some rest. Especially you Jake, you're pregnant, not just that but you'll be looking after little Sammie and watching the game tomorrow afternoon." Kelly said unfolding the cot.
"Yeah okay." Jake yawned.
"You're gonna do your little girl proud in that game West Ethan Harrison. She's not gonna be embarrassed by her daddy." Kelly demanded.
"When have I not done well in a game?" I asked.
"Never. Now good night my little turtle doves." She said walking out.
I carefully placed Sammie in the cot and took off my shirt leaving me in my school shorts, before flopping onto the bed.
"Will I be a good mum?" Jake asked.
"Jake, you've learned from super mum. I think you'll do just fine."
***
"Jake?"
"Here."
"We-who is that little angel West?" Mrs. Parker asked.
"This is Samantha-Jayne. My daughter." I said. I decided last night I'd use her birth name. Amber was the one who insisted on calling her Sammie. There's no more Amber though, so it's my choice.
"She's a big one, how old is she?"
"One. She'll be two on the day I turn seventeen." I smiled.
"She's gorgeous. Did you choose her name?"
"Yeah. Her middle name was just gonna be Adelaide, but my grandmother passed a few weeks before her birth so we added rose. Samantha-Jayne Rose Adelaide Harrison." I smiled.
"Well good on you for being a good dad." She smiled.
"Thank you." I grinned.
***
"Erin!" I yelled, running after her.
"What?"
"Thank you. Because of you I've got my little girl back, I'm sorry I treated you so badly. You didn't deserve it."
"It's fine... I hope you don't mind, but your brother Wyatt asked me out, I know he's your brother so I told him I'd tell him my answer by tomorrow... Because I wanted to see if you were fine with it... So are you?" She asked nervously.
"Erin, you're a nice girl, I honestly think that you'd do the boy some good. He's been through a lot in these past few months with our parents dying and I definitely didn't help him any. Say yes. You'll be a good change of pace for him." I smiled.
"Thanks West. It really means a lot that you'd let me go out with him. I know things between us aren't the best, but I'm glad. Your opinion means a lot to him believe it or not." She smiled. "Believe it or not, I really like him."
"It's fine. Now go get my bro." I grinned.
