💛Aspen's POV💛

I was told by one of America's maids, Mary, that she wanted to see me within an hour. I told her I'll be there when I finish my round before break.

I finished my rounds and walked to America's room about 30 minutes later. I decided to use my break for this visit. I knocked on her door and heard a slurred, "Come in!" I opened the door and walked in.

America looked up at me with those piercing, icy blue eyes.

"Mer," I started to say in a soft voice, "You look like a mess. Let's get you to bed. Here, take my hand.." She grabbed my hand, and as fast as she stood up, she fell down. Luckily, I was able to catch her in time.

I laughed then said, "You can't walk. I have to carry you to bed." I spotted the wine bottle and the tipped over glass out of the corner of my eye, she tipsy.

I picked her up bridal style as she giggled then cooed, "When did you become so buff like that? It's like one of those covers on an erotic romance novel women read."

I tried to suppress my laughter as I laid her down, but I couldn't.

I went to grab a blanket as she said, "Your eyes are green like kiwi and you have brown hair like chocolate." she giggled and I giggled at the sight of her. What she said doesn't really make sense, but it's my Mer. She says whatever she thinks and whatever comes to her mind before she knows fully on what she's doing.

"Hey! Why are you laughing?" she pouted as she stuck her bottom lip out and crossed her arms over her chest.

I tried to suppress my laughter again, and this time, it worked.

"Nothing. Now, get to sleep. You'll need it for tomorrow." I commanded in a soft voice.

"Mmm, okay. Goodnight." she said right before she closed her eyes. I kissed her forehead lightly.

Before I left, I saw the jar with only one penny that's occupying it. A penny that I would give her whenever she sang for me out our little tree house back at home. I don't know why, but my heart ached at the sight of it.

I guess I still love her. I turned off the light by her bedside and walked out of the room using the moonlight pouring in from the french doors as my light path to walk into the hallway.

I closed the door as I started to get agitated and angry. How could Maxon break her heart and make Mer do this? She would never do this, even if she was the last person on earth. Although, people handle heartbreak in many different ways, this is just one of them.

I could confront and punch Maxon right now, but I had to lock up my anger. I didn't want to be canned and possibly lose my job as well. I need the money, more importantly, my mom and two sisters need it more than I do.
