My breathing quickly becomes ragged and strong hands lift me as my body descends, involuntary shudders move me. A masculine voice comforts me amidst the male and female banter which occurs around me.
"Is she okay?"
"Give her space."
"How many fingers am I holding up?"
The masculine voice speaks again; "she needs first aid. Sven, get me the first-aid kit from Lou's car ready."
A breeze brushes my face gently; the blood leaving me trickles cold pathways along my skin.
"This will hurt Lou."
I shriek, pain sets fire to my neck. My hands thrash out and grip well-formed arms, I dig my nails in; pleading without words for my release from this torture.
Sweat covers my brow as another cotton bud touches a different part of me.
"Please! Please stop!" I hate how pathetic I sound.
"Lou, I can't. I have to stop infection."
Fresh tears replace the ghosts of others; I open my eyes to gaze into Nathaniel's pained expression.
"Please Nathaniel, no more. It hurts too much. Stop, please."
He blinks furiously and momentarily lifts his head to someone."She needs sutures."
A feminine voice responds; tone steady and slightly cold. "I can help."
"Don't you dare come near her." He protectively crouches over me; his free hand strokes my forehead constantly, whether it's to comfort him or me escapes my knowledge.
Sven sits on my other side; handing Nathaniel a needle and thread.
My mouth opens slightly with horror, "please Nathaniel, please don't."
"I'm sorry Lou. Sven, hold her down."
Sven's large hands hold me stead-fast to the pavement and I soon realise struggling holds no true purpose. Allowing my body to go limp, I keep my gaze locked with Nathaniel's face. Daggers of pain shoot into me; it feels like years before the needle finishes passing through my skin.
Everytime the needle touches my skin I bite my lip and let my tears flow freely.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Half an hour later a bandage is secure around my throat and Nathaniel hovers over me with water and food as I lounge in the back of my car. "Here, have some water."
I nod and grab the fluid; as I reach up my hands lose their grip and I drop the bottle unwillingly. Nathaniel's hand closes around it and he lifts my head as he assists me with drinking. "I'm sorry Nathaniel."
"I never thought I'd get that from you. Especially in this situation, I just spent a good amount of time navigating a needle through your skin."
A brief smile crosses my face and he sits next to me as he cuts an apple before handing me a slice. He continues until I've swallowed; the signal for him to provide me with more food.
"I didn't realise how hungry I was."
"You lost a fair amount of blood, you need nutrition and water."
"Why are you doing this for me?"
"I-"
"Hey Lou! You look much better now!" Percy's sunny disposition brightens my own mood significantly as she drags Sven behind her with a suprising amount of force.
