Teresa POV

The hammering in my head pulls me to consciousness. Then the aching in my limbs. The steady beep of the machines that are beside me. I open my eyes only to be greeted by blurring shapes and images that seem to smear together. My vision clears and I see that I am in what reminds me of a hospital room. Where am I? What am I doing here? Where is everybody? Thomas. For a brief moment, I try to throw words at him like I used to. When I was assured that I would get words back, but I know better. Memories begin to flood my brain. I am reminded of the deafening boom of near bombs and buildings collapsing all around me or more specifically onto me. I remember Thomas's panicked face close to my own and what I thought were my last words to him. The thoughts in my mind become too big for my brain to process and I abruptly become lightheaded.

In spite of my heavy limbs and my unstable ability to think without passing out I attempt to push myself off my bed to investigate my surroundings, but the small amount of effort that the task took triggers something in my machines and suddenly the steady beeping of the machines turn into a frenzy. The screeching of the machines is all it takes to send my small amount of consciousness over the edge and black spots begin to invade my fragile vision. I am briefly aware of a woman bustling through the door and walking swiftly towards me. I am able to create only one clear thought:

Why am I not dead? But darkness swallows me once again.

Newt POV

I listen to the conversation going on at the edge of my bed. Not that I have a choice, the searing pain in my abdomen takes care of that. Might as well listen. I could use some bloody information. I make sure to process every word I can understand.

"He's incredibly lucky." A female voice says.

Yeah, right. Lucky.

"If Fin hadn't been they're taking care of Thomas who know what would've happened to him," Says a male co-worker.

"It's unbelievable don't you think?" The female says in an awed tone.

"What?"

"Well, Fin said he could tell Thomas meant to kill the subject..." I'm a bloody person.

"...But he pulled away too quickly and shot his stomach instead. Subject A5 passed out from the pain so no one could tell the difference, but Fin called someone in to pick him up and take him back to headquarters." She finished.

"If that's not luck I don't know what is." The male said.

I'm pretty sure luck is not being put into a shucking maze. Just the thought of the confining walls makes my heart beat faster. I start to try and answer the questions that are infesting my mind. Where am I? It feels like a hospital room but other than that I have no recollection of anything else. The realisation makes me feel helpless.

Where is everyone?

"Hey, I think he's awake."

Rachel POV

I awake to a woman standing at the end of my bed. I jump in surprise and find that the slightest movement of my muscles is a hard task. I rub my eyes in confusion and furrow my eyebrows.

"Hello, Rachel." The blond woman says.

"Where am I?" I rasp. My throat feels like sandpaper and it doesn't sound like I've talked in a while.

"You are in safe hands. Please don't worry, you are safe" She replies coolly.

"Where is- "

"Aris is safe and so is Harriet and Sonya." She interrupts as if she can read my mind. Maybe she can. She might be from WICKED.

"You have been in a coma since you escaped the maze, which was about a year ago." She continues.

"A Year!" I exclaim but my voice is obviously not used to the volume and it comes out in splutters.

"Correct." She replies unfazed by my coughing fit.

"Who are you?" I say suddenly angry at how they could keep me like this for so long.

"Ava." She replies shortly.

"You can trust me."

The statement almost makes me laugh. Almost.

"I can't trust anyone Ava."

A/N

Here you go my first fanfic published! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it and any feedback is greatly appreciated.

So I decided to write this story because I also wondered about life after and I thought that the story ended too suddenly. But I also think that the very short description of paradise was intentional and for us to create our own endings.

Hope you guys enjoyed! Hx
