The Last Year

Kind of Confusing

"Umm..." I say looking at the three of my family members. "Is that your boyfriend?" Andrew says. "Yes. This is my boyfriend Jeremiah Parker. Jeremiah this is my family." I say. "Hi everyone." Jeremiah says. "Jeremiah Parker nice to meet you." Aunt Beth says. "Please come sit and join us." Uncle Jeff says. We both sit down. Jeremiah seemed nervous but he played everything cool. "Jeremiah how are your grades?" Aunt Beth ask. Aunt Beth seemed very guarded tonight. It was like at any moment she was going to burst out angry. She seemed very exasperated. "Very good. Straight A's." He said. "What about college? Do you have one would like to go to?" She questioned. I sighed. Aunt Beth has been hounded me the past three years of my life about college. "Aunt Beth is this really relevant? Couldn't we just start a new game of Uno?" I ask. She gives me the death stare. "Mia I'm just trying to get to know your boyfriend. Do you have a problem with this?" She asks. I look down shamefully. "No it's just college is a boring topic let's talk about something else." I say. I knew Jeremiah didn't have a plan for college yet and if Aunt Beth found out I knew she would immediately not like him. "Mia let the boy answer the question." She said turning her attention to Jeremiah. "Honestly Mrs. Lurks I haven't thought about college a whole lot. I really want to stay local and start up a small business." He said. I looked over at Andrew who was shaking his head disapprovingly. He's only in middle school and he knows that Jeremiah's planned is very flawed. "Do you not think college is important?" Aunt Beth asks. I already knew his answer. "No I think you could really do without it." He said. "I've heard enough." Aunt Beth said standing up. "Aunt Beth.." I said. "Mia say goodnight to Mr. Parker." She said. "Goodnight." I said. He just smiled weakly at me as my aunt walked him to the door. She stopped him at the door and talked to him for a long time. When she came back to the living room I said "Was that necessary?" She just looked at me. "Yes. It was. Mia I don't disapprove of him entirely. He just needs a little push in the right direction." She said. I didn't understand what she was doing. She asked him a couple of questions and then kicked him out. What was she doing? "Aunt Beth I don't understand?" I asked. "Just go to bed sweetie." As I went up the stairs Uncle Jeff stopped me. "Trust me Mia she likes Jeremiah. She has a plan for something." I just nodded and went up the stairs what was happening. I texted Jeremiah and asked him if everything was okay. He just said that Aunt Beth wanted to meet him for lunch on Sunday to discuss something. It was just to be him and her. I didn't understand what she was doing. She was planning something. The question was was she planning something for the good of society or for the bad?
