Chapter two - 3 years later
"Hey Bob. Same as usual?" I asked the man sitting in the booth by himself. He's here every Saturday, so it's not hard to remember what he like's.
"You know me so well. Thanks Izzy!" He said, smiling. I wrote down his usual order and walked into the kitchen. Working in a bar that also serves hot food is actually not that bad. The customers are often friendly enough and the workers enjoy each other's company whilst getting paid. It's a win - win situation.
Handing the little note with Bob's usual order over to Marlon, our cook, I smiled at him. He returned the smile. This is why I love working here! You may think it's a little shabby and I can do so much better than a bar, but hey, what do you expect for a freshman just starting out in college? I'm getting paid much more than some other people.
Marlon's smile turned into a knowing grin, "I see Bob's here again, as usual."
I nodded, "When is he not here?" We both chuckled and I let Marlon get on with cooking.
Serving a few people's drinks, I was beginning to get tired. Maybe I shouldn't have agreed to work overtime today when I have an exam to be studying for. Speaking of working overtime, where the heck is Emma? My shift is going to end in about five minutes, and then Em will take over. If she doesn't arrive soon then Mandy wont be very happy.
"Thanks for the lovely meal," Bob said, handing me over the money, "See you next Saturday!"
"Bye Bob!" Me, Marlon and Olivia shouted at the same time.
Jeez. I am exhausted! And Em still isn't here. Mandy isn't going to like this one bit, she better hurry up!
Sighing, I came out from behind the bar and sat at one of the empty stools. It's been a very long day. I can't wait to get home so I can study. Exams have been on my mind constantly.
"Where's Em?" Olivia, another barmaid, asked. I never even realised she was standing so close.
I shrugged. "I honestly don't know," I yawned, "But she need's to hurry up."
"Yeah, she does. You seem really tired."
"I am."
"Well you should just go. If Mandy comes out I'll cover for Em until she get's here."
"But what if you can't?"
"Izzy," Olivia sighed, "Just go."
"What if there's robbers?"
"Marlon will protect me, now go."
"Well what if wild raccoons come and demand free beer?"
"Isabella Maria Evans! Go home now!"
I grimaced as she called me by my full name. No-ones called me that since I caught Brendan and Amelia together, and that person was Josh. Ever since then I've gone by the name Izzy. Never Ella. Why, you ask? Because Amelia came up with that little nickname for me. Er, Amelia. I can't even stand hearing her name.
"Fine. I'm going," Sulking, I walked into the back room and collected my things, before wrapping my jacket around me and heading home. It's really not fair that of all day's my car chose to break today! It was this morning, in fact.
I had to get the bus because of that. I don't know why, but I hate getting the bus. It's as though your sitting in your own car with a whole bunch of strangers you've never met before. For instance, if there was no seat's left, except for a one next to a man in a business suit, would you sit next to him? What if he was a drug addict, or an extremely expensive drug dealer? You never know when it come's to the bus.
