Chapter 3: Hope

I WENT TO UNLOCK THE DOOR FOR QUIL. AND THERE HE WAS SMILING BRIGHTLY AT ME I couldn’t help but smile back at him. We went off into the living room and I started a fire in the chimney. It was toasty warm and a perfect setting for our history to be told. I laid my head on Nivae lap and we listened as Quil began.  He started off with the one that was less scary for her. It was more funny than scary my great grandfather was in this one it was about the time the great one visited him during his sleep, and no one really knows why this is a story of our tribe I think it’s just for entertainment.

“Ready for a real tribal story?” he said after finishing the one about the great one. We nodded.  “It was a dark winter night Fallen’s great grandfather Palin was in the woods alone searching for a voice that called him. ‘Palin’ it said ‘come closer your almost here I need you Palin’ it still called. The voice was driving him away from the trib. This winter was hectic snow storms almost every night. The wind whistled shaking Palin with it.  He shook and trembled and hurried through the night searching and searching but he came to find nothing. The voice was still calling and he was still going. The stormed came and he was every bit as frozen as before.”

Nivae interrupted him “Wait why was he searching?”

“There really wasn’t anyone calling him he was searching for hope. Hope was the voice and that was the only that was ever there with him.”

“Why was he searching for hope?”

“Because back then hope was the only thing that you could have faith in. The only thing that you can depend on that wouldn’t leave or forsake you.” Quil told her.

“Can, I just say you are so deep.” Nivae told him

“Yeah I’ve been told that before.”

“If only he was that deep when we were dating.” I said grimly

“Yeah if only.”

“Speaking of dating,” Nivae said “I see Russo been staring at cha Fallen.”

“Who is Russo?”

“Alexander… the one in our gym class.”

“Oh, yeah more like getting on my nerves.”

“The pale dude you were talking about yesterday Fallen?”

“Yeah him.”

“Oh, well Fallen a lot of people have over heard him talking to his older brother about you.”

“Why?”

“They were talking about him liking you in what not.”

“Yeah, right a male model liking me. I’m plain and boring what’s to like.”

“Fallen you’re like an Indian goddess.” Nivae said while waving a hand over me.

“I second on that motion.”

“You two are lying.”

“No, you are lying to yourself.” Quil said matter-of-factly.

“Whatever if he likes me, why the hell is he one of the rudest people at that school?”

“Well, guys have a different way of showing affection Fallen.” Nivae told me.

“Well Quil was never rude to me or anything, always polite never too cocky. And Alex ugh he is a show off and of course he makes me infuriated when he shows-off. But there are other feelings when he is around me…” I trailed off.

“Umm... Fallen T.M.I I’m still in here.” Quil said grossed out.

“Hush…” I whispered a little embarrassed.
