Break Out

Chapter Five

Kehlani "Queen" Jackson
X and I rode the elevator in silence while he looked at me incredulously. I'm sure he was caught off guard by the fairly nice apartment building in the middle of one of the most crime ridden cities in our state.

"Missed me already?" Blue chuckled as he greeted us at the elevator. I rolled my eyes and stepped aside to reveal X. His eyes went wide for a moment but quickly he composed himself. "You must be the boyfriend I've heard so much about," he smiled politely.

"Nah. I'm his brother. But I'll gladly kick your ass if you forget your place. Queen who is this dude?" He snapped.

"X, don't you dare disrespect him-"

"Lani it's straight. Come on in." He lead us to the living room where we sat down. "Wassup? You look like something's on your mind." X remained standing while I took a seat.

"Yeah... Blue. I need a huge favor. Me and X here were wondering if we could set some cameras and surveillance up here. I can't explain right now but-"

"Lani, it ain't nothin. Go ahead do what you gotta do," Blue smiled. My eyes widened in surprise.

"Thanks Blue. I promise I'll tell you everything in time. Okay?"

"I trust you Kehlani." I hugged him and smiled. Just a few steps closer to getting my love back. I looked to X, happy and satisfied, but he didn't share my look. His brows were furrowed and he had a slight glare aimed towards Blue. I gave him a 'stop it' look but he just continued on.

"So, can I get anybody some water?" I asked trying to break the awkward silence. When neither of them spoke I just walked to the kitchen and got three glasses.

"You better watch yourself. Unlike her I'm not oblivious to things. She's taken my nigga," I heard X growl.

"Trust me, you don't understand. I don't want nor do I see Lani that way."

"I don't give a fuck what you say. She might trust you, but I ain't her. Keep your hands and nicknames to yourself."

"I got the water!" I said fast as I walked in. I could feel the tension as I handed each of them their glass. I brought the cup to my lips and took a sip. Something stirred inside me and before I knew it, I felt my legs carrying me to the bathroom. My knees hit the floor and whatever contents that were in my stomach from today left me and went right into the toilet. I felt my hair being pulled back out of my face as I continued gagging. Once I was done I took slow deep breaths and leaned against the wall. X and Blue looked at me with worried eyes. "Sorry," I said barely above a whisper.

"The fuck is you apologizing for?" X sighed.

"Lani, are you okay?" Blue asked. I could see the concern written on both of their faces.

"Guys I'm fine. Really. Just under a lot of stress that's all," I smiled meekly.

"Maybe you should relax and take some time off," X said.

"No no no. You know I can't do that. We're close X! I can feel it-"

"Aight listen. We'll talk about this later. I need to get you home so you can relax-"

"She can stay here," Blue offered.

"Fuck no."

"X-"

"You can stay here with her. My bedroom is right next door and there's a couch in there. You can stay in there and watch her. Deal?"

"And where you gon be?"

"I have to go to my shift at the diner. Come on Lani," he said as he lifted me up and carried me. He pushed his door open and set me down on the nice plush bed. X came in with some water and set it on the nightstand beside me. "I'll be back soon okay?" He brushed my hair out of my face and smiled softly. I nodded as my eyes started to drift close.
