Chapter 8

Jace Hunt

I'm a dick. I'm a complete asshole and she probably hates me. My own mate. I fucked up. I was suppose to wait, date her, and after a few months, drop the bomb about what I am. Not force myself on her. I ran through the woods on that crisp, Wednesday afternoon as my midnight black wolf and my bag being held in my mouth.

My beta, and best friend, Owen Jerridson, ran behind me. I could hear him yelling at me through our mind link but I was to distracted to tell what he was saying. We got into site of our pack house. I ran behind a tree and shifted back into human form, digging through my bag for some athletic shorts and a t-shirt.

I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder. Owen was already inside. I contemplated on if I should just go inside and see the update for today. Or to just go for a run. To escape from the world for a while. Like I do when I'm stressed.

I ran. I ripped my clothes as I shifted into my wolf an ran to the only place I could think of.

About three miles out of town, there was an old, burned down house. It hasn't completely fallen. So you could still walk in it and go upstairs. There was still a bed but it was so.... gone. You couldn't sleep in it. The stairs would creak when you put a little weight on them. But you could sit one the couch and relax. A tree split the kitchen and the only known bathroom apart.

I found it when I was out for a midnight run. My mom had died that afternoon and I wanted to get away. So I ran and found this place. I come here as much as I possibly can. But I never told the pack about it.

I got to the house in about an hour. I sprinted the whole way but walked some of the journey in order to save energy in case I saw a rouge.

I walked around the house to find the nonexistent door. I strode through the doorframe and went straight for the dark green, charred couch. I hopped onto it and laid my big fluffy head overtop the edge and thought about how Kat would react if I asked her if we were still on for Friday night.

I was so nervous when I asked her to come to Henry's party.

Henry Paine is some one from my pack who lives on his own in town. He owns his own cabin on the shore of a lake in the middle of town and he throws a party everything time someone finds their mate.

Yes, I already announced that I have found my mate but I told my excited pack that it will take her a while to come to me. So they agreed to wait as long as needed.

I just laid there. On the burned couch. Thinking of my mate. While drifting into unconsciousness.

Kat Gilbert

I got to Damon's house using the directions he gave me in about forty-five minutes.

I knocked on the big, intimidating, oak wood doors an got an answer from a perky woman with long, curly brown hair.

"Hi." She said. "You must be Kat. The new maid. I'm Akira. I'm head of all the staff that work for the Edward family."

She had long, brown hair that reached the small of her back in beachy waves. Her ebony skin made her green eyes sparkle. She seemed to be in he mid thirties but still young. Her height towering me, supported by three inch heels.

"Yeah. Today's my first day." I said through the black gate guarding me from the broad house.

Akira walked up to the gate and pushed a small brown button to the side. It was camouflaged with the brown rock slabs cemented together at either side of the barrier.

"Since its your first day," She started. "I'll let you just hang out with the kids. I'll give you the tour, introduce them to you, and then you can hang out with one of them to get used to being here. Then, on Friday, you will start work."

My breathe hitched in my throat. Friday? No. Friday cannot be my second day. I was suppose to go to the party with-

Jace! (A/N thought caps and italics would be good. ;)]

"What sweetie?" Apparently, I had spoken my thoughts.

"Nothing." I quickly covered up.

The gate opened up with a slight creak as I stepped through. Akira led me through the oak wood doors and through a hallway to a main room I guessed was the living room. There was two little twins in the floor between the two big couches that faced each other. A boy and a girl. They looked up when the sound of Akira's heels padded into the great big parlor. Their eyes went wide when they noticed me. The abruptly stood up and ran up the stairs.

Akira, unfazed by the kids strange reaction, continued to lead me through another hallway. The sides were dotted with pictures of kids playing. I saw a picture of Damon dressed up like a 1900's soldier, with is hair brushed back. It looked like he was at some kind of county fair with dress up and he took this picture to a whole new level.

We entered a big room that had a big, long dining table in the middle. There was a fireplace to the right and a big window on the left wall showing the garden. A grand chandelier hung from the ceiling.

"This is the dinning room." Akira informed me. She pressed a little button beside the door we entered from and a chiming sound was heard from all in the house. I heard steps pounding down a set of stairs throughout the house.

A door at the other side of the room opened and Damon walked in with a girl that looked about 19. Her curly red hair went with the yellow sundress she wore. Her eyes were a greenish yellow and her face was covered in freckles.

Akira introduced her as Georgia. She was Damon's older cousin.

Akira left Georgia, Damon, and me alone in awkward silence. Damon told me to hangout with Georgia since he was doing something. She showed me to her room which was covered with all my favorite bands.

My Chemical Romance.

Green Day.

30 Seconds To Mars.

Panic At The Disco.

And a bunch of others that I though were totally amazing. We sat down at her bed and just talked. And talked. And talked. We talked about almost anything random. Music, movies, books, etc.

We had a lot in common. We both had the same interest. Before I knew it, three hours have past and it was time for me to head home. I said goodbye to Georgia, gave Akira a hug, and I didn't see Damon anywhere.

I walked home that day thinking over what has happened. It was a good first day. I just had to figure out what I would do for Friday night.
