Learning to bare my walls to anyone has never been easy. But somehow between being enchanted by his smile and warmed by his touch, my walls slowly but surely fell. And without hesitancy, I began to proudly stand in the midst of the beautiful rubble.

"But you promised! You can't go back on your promise, Autumn!" She pouts, following me into my bedroom.

I release a heavy sigh, the guilt of my unfortunate happiness to be skipping Karen's Mommy and me class, weighing on me heavily. I do feel remorseful that I will miss the class, but not remorseful enough to unpack my belongings and stay.

"Karen this is a huge step for me. I can't pass it up." I stress, turning away from my dresser just in time to catch Karen's eye roll.

"So a business trip is better than accompanying your very pregnant sister to one of the most important classes in her life?"

I glance at her and my partially full suitcase.

"Yes?" I shrug, turning towards my dresser again.

Karen releases an exasperated sigh before walking towards my bed and plopping on it. I suppress a giggle when she sighs aloud once more before offering me her signature puppy-eyes. This is a tactic that she has been using quite often since entering her second trimester.

This tactic apparently works quite well for her when it comes to her husband, but it seems as though I am immune to it. And this is what I find to be the most comical oxymoron.

"Not going to work sister. Now sit on the suitcase so I can close it."

Reluctantly she assists me with the last batch of clothing before obliging to my request. When the task is finished, she hops down from the bed and offers a goofy smile.

"You should invite that Timothy guy. I am sure you two could have fun together." She nudges me in the shoulder.

"Karen, I pray for this child every night. Its mother is, unfortunately, a looney." I deadpan.

"You deserve to have fun Autumn. Especially with that hot doctor!" She continues, disregarding my insult completely.

Without retort, I shake my head and grab my suitcase from the bed. I turn to give Karen one last glance before continuing out of the door.

"Ignore me if you want, you know I am right. You need to get laid." She huffs trying to keep up with my pace.

I drop my suitcase beside the nearby love seat, turning to her to give her a mouthful. Fortunately for her, the screeching of my cell phone puts a stop to my motives completely.

I give her a silent glare before swiveling my body vehemently to find the cell phone in my mountain of luggage; silently cursing myself for even misplacing it in the first place. When I do recover it from my undergarment bag, I couldn't tame the smile that spread the corner on my lips. I also couldn't hide it quick enough to avoid a suspicious eyebrow raise from Karen.

"Who is that?" She crosses her arms over her chest patiently.

I avoid her gaze and especially her question, sliding my thumb across the screen to answer.

"Hello?"

"Hey Sapphire, how are you?" He greets casually.

I suppress a smile and glance over my shoulder to check if Karen is eavesdropping. Indeed she is, her arms still crossed over her chest, leaning against my bedroom door frame with a small smile on her lips.

"I'm fine. Just packing." I avert my attention away from Karen. "What about you? Shouldn't you be working?"

"You worry about the wrong thing, Autumn." He chuckles. "I am actually calling in sick today. I seem to be coming down with something."
