Twice the Love

I walked into my room. There was sand on the floor, probably from Rivin's shoes. I took off my tie and coat. It was hot in this thing. I hated wearing it, and being expected to wear it.

Sliding into bed, I unbuttoned my shirt. Setting my laptop on my bed I glanced at my emails.

*53 unread emails*

I sighed. I didn't feel like doing work, but Father had entrusted the company to me. I would do my work. Later.

My mind drifted. Katherine Bell had come to my office today. I could have put her anywhere else, but I felt the need to keep her close. She was smart, talented, not so bad looking, and an okay cook. She seemed a bit clutsy, though. Nonetheless Daylight didn't deserve her. She shouldn't be working for an ugly old creep like Valance Pate.

Something boiled inside me. I wanted her to work for me. She was a good employee, hard working and sharp. Deluge would do her justice. I'd convince her. Some day I'd lay out the proposal on the table and ask her to work for me. She couldn't refuse.

I looked out the door, which I had forgotten to close. I suddenly wished Rivin wasn't asleep. I wanted to talk to him. My heart clenched for no reason. Nothing bad had happened, yet I felt melancholy. What was wrong with me?

Rivin on the other hand had cheered up the past couple days, because of his new girlfriend. He had started going out with a girl he met online, named Katie. His random texts about what he should do where quite annoying, but I secretly liked them. It helped me feel less as if my brother was being stolen from me.

I got up. Walking down to the kitchen I grabbed an apple. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Garbage. The only way to keep a doctor away was to THROW an apple at them. But then you'd get a different kind of doctor, a shrink.

I jogged back up to my room. It wasn't so bad having someone else in my office. She was distracting, I have to admit, but it was a good kind of distraction. I felt less pissed at my father for dumping this on me. I kinda like my job now.
