CHAPTER 4
That night, 6 pm
"Okay, let's have a campfire outside." Ms. Sochyn announced.
We surrounded the campfire while sitting on logs.
"Who will lead the campfire song?" Ms. Sochyn asked.
"I volunteer! I volunteer to lead the campfire song!" Pichina G., the sister of Angelica G. exclaimed.
Pichina started to sing.
"On my lead,♪C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E S-O-N-G song♪ Ready? Sing!"
♪C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E S-O-N-G song♪
Everyone sang happily.
"Now, who wants horror stories?" Ms. Sochyn asked after the song.
The song leader, Pichina G., disagreed. "Noooo!" She screamed but everyone disagreed with her.
"I'll tell the story!" Carlo volunteered and everyone agreed.
"The night was dark for the moon was young. There was once a boy our age who camps in a forest with his friends near this very resort. One stormy night, he was sleeping on his tent and he heard a rustling sound near the bush. He came out to see what it was and saw nothing because of the dark. He went back to his tent and saw a dark shadow passed by quickly. 'What was that?' He shivered. His campmates were all asleep and he was the only one wide awake. Then, the moon draw nearer and nearer to him." Carlo told the story in a soft, mysterious voice.
Everyone fell silent and didn't move a muscle.
"The boy moved back until he was cornered inside his tent. He panicked and took a pair of scissors and teared his way out of the tent. He rushed through the woods away from the campsite... still the moon is following him." Carlo continued.
Everyone is hiding in their blankets especially Pichina G., the cowardly cat.
"There was an enormous bird who flew behind him but he kept on running. He looked back and saw nothing. His head turned and saw that the bird is flying towards him. He dodged and crawled. He noticed that he was at the edge of the cliff. 'Aawooo!' There were wolves running for him and they seemed to be famished. The boy had no way out but he reckoned that if the enormous flying creature comes back, he would try to jump over it and control the mind of the bird for his flight to a safer place." Carlo cleared his throat.
"Right in time, that bird flew infront of him and he did not think twice. He grabbed the bird's claws and leap on the bird's back. The boy kept holding on the bird's neck. As the bird was flying, the wind was so strong that he couldn't see where he was going. The moon could almost touch the bird's feathers. Unknowingly, the moon was a portal." Carlo stressed the word portal.
"Oh really?!?" Everyone disagreed.
"Interesting fact!" Charles Garfield hooted. "The moon is the earth's natural satellite that shines by the sun's reflected light, revolves about the earth from west to east in about 291⁄2 days with reference to the sun or about 271⁄3 days with reference to the stars, and has a diameter of 2160 miles (3475 kilometers). I have read a lot of books about moons and scientifically speaking, the moon doesn't have a portal."
Everyone just ignored Charles.
"Now this bird had an evil spirit." Carlo continued. "His eyes were black and glowing. It's beak was made of steel. It's feathers were black, very black. As the moon swallowed them both through the portal, the boy's ribs started to unite with the bird's backbone. They clashed slowly, the feathers were covering the boy's arms and the boy became part of the bird's body. After a few fast minutes, their bodies united! The bird's feathers, were still black but it's head... became human! It was the boy's head." Carlo spoke gently as everyone gasped.
"It's eyes were still black and glowing. It's nose, which was once a beak was still made out of steel." Carlo added. "As you can see, the boy was possesed by this evil bird. And this evil bird is still out there! Just waiting... and waiting for it's next victim." Carlo finished.
"W-why? W-what victim? Why is t-the bird waiting f-for it's next victim?" Pichina G., asked, shivering.
"I don't know." Carlo whispered to himself. "No one knows!!!" He half-shouted.
Carlo's eyes widened. Everyone was silent that you could even hear the wind sound.
Suddenly, the bush rustled. Everyone hopped in fright except Charles Garfield. He stood in the middle of the circle beside the campfire.
"I think it's a bunny! Interesting fact! A bunny is a young rabbit." Charles stepped near the rustling bush and held in hand a frog instead.
"Aaah! Eww!" He threw the frog at the campfire accidentally.
The flames suddenly turned to blue and the smoke formed into a shape of an enormous flying specie. Suddenly, the fire went out.
"Maybe it's a ghost!" screamed Jose McRichy, the richest boy in school who can afford to buy the whole world.
Everyone screamed and some jumped to their tents.
"Guys, let's all calm down." Myrthel McArthur, the super great great great granddaughter of Douglas McArthur. "There's no such thing as ghosts. Only bad spirits. According to the pastor of our church, bad spirits are evil, too. But they can't be seen." Myrthel said in a mellow voice.
Everyone calmed down.
"So it means that they are even creepier!" Myrthel added.
Everyone even got more scared and jumped to their tents.
