When the news of Daenerys Targaryen arriving in the north with an army and two dragons, the north lords quickly prepared for her coming but not for hosting her in their halls for a feast but to meet her on the field. Even in the cold many set out to march to winterfell and join their king.

Jon expected fear to spread especially when there have sightings of dragons flying over towns and villages but no, each man Jon met he saw courage in their eyes. After days of waiting, all the lords and their fighting men have all reached Jon's camp south of Winterfell. Near twenty thousand men answered his call although many of them are young men, most probably going to their first battle and the rest are either those who didn't join Robb in the war of five kings or old men who decided to wield the sword one last time.

The camp stretched out for miles facing southwards along the kingsroad, thousands of men around camp fires having their evening meal. The biggest camp fire was in the center where Jon and all the lords, high and low gathered to discuss what's to be done. Seated around the campfire, Jon watched the flames and remembered lady Melisandre's talk about the flames. He also wondered if dragon fire is the same as the fire he sees. Ghost lied down beside him, enjoying the warmth.

"Daenerys Targaryen has left White Harbor and Jorah Mormont has joined her with his own force" Lord Tallhart announced. "Our scouts say their army is composed of many different men from the Dorne, the reach, unsullied and dothraki"

"Jorah Mormont is one of us, maybe he can help" Lord Cerwyn asked.

"He is totally devoted to her, I don't think he would betray her. But I'm inclined that he's not willing to spill blood easily especially when his own kin is here" Ser Davos said and looked at Lady Mormont.

"There won't be a fight" Jon stood up. "We all know what's coming. We can't afford to lose men on petty disputes over power"

"Petty? Your grace we're talking about the honor of our people" Lord Glover said. "We chose you king and we mean that"

"Aye!" cheered all of them

"Is it worth risking our only chance of beating the white walkers?" Jon asked them.

"Then why have you gathered us all here, your grace?" Lord Manderly stood up.

"Because if she won't listen and she kills me or burns me or takes me away, all of you march north to the wall and defend it with your lives" He didn't like it but knew it was the only way he could think of doing.

"I swore I will stand behind you, your grace. And if you'll burn by dragon fire then so will I" Lord Glover said.

"And I!" Lord Manderly yelled. Followed by the rest of the lords and ladies.

"You Honor me, all of you. But it is not my desire to fight for something is lesser than what is to come" Jon stood up and looked at them all, "You tell me that I am your king then hear my command to you all, whatever happens to me. March north and defend the wall or not even the gods can save us"

Jon looked at their eyes and saw their disagreement with him,  they weren't going to do as he said. The moment he steps into danger he knows they'll protect him and many will die. The war council went on more for hours making up battle plans for Daenerys and her dragons. By midnight everyone went to their tents while Jon took a long walk with Ghost around the camp.

Those who were still awake greeted him, bowed to him and even shared their drinks and meals with him. He wondered if this is what Robb went through during the war, having restless nights. He found Ser Davos talking and laughing with some men around a camp fire. Ser Davos joined Jon on his walk, silently passing by the tents.
