I wake up the next morning in Ben's arms. It's like he's trying to hide me away to protect me. I smile and put my head on his chest. "Morning," he says. I jump and he chuckles. "How do you feel?"
I close my eyes for a minute before looking at him. "What happened? What did you see?"
"You don't remember?" He asks, worried. I shake my head. "The amulet showed us parts of your childhood. They know what your mother did to you." I nod and take a shaky breath. "Can I ask you something? You don't have to answer if you don't want to." I nod and he traces my arm. "How do you not have any scars? I've seen you without sleeves on and I didn't see a mark."
I sigh and sit up. Waving my hands over my arms, a shimmer glows and scars appear on my skin. "I keep them hidden so people don't pity me. I guess I had forgotten about them."
Ben nods and traces along a few cuts. "You don't need to hide from me. I love you for you. No matter what your past is." I smile before leaning up and kissing him. "I thought you said you were an only child."
"She's dead so technically I am," I tell him.
He chuckles and shakes his head. "We saw the rest of it. How you broke through the barrier and sent her away."
"She's probably dead by now. If she didn't make it to land," I trail off.
Ben sits up and pulls me into his lap, playing with my hair. "We could try to find her. Introduce her. She'd be proud to be your sister."
"If people know Maleficent had another child, then she will be discriminated against. I want her to have a good, normal life. And that means not knowing her past." I lay back against him as he plays with my hair.
"What if we just find her to see if she made it. I can tell this is making you feel bad."
I smile and turn around so our noses touch. "How is it that you always know how to make me feel better?"
"I'm just that good!" he says. After a while, we walk downstairs where Evie, Audrey, Lonnie and Jane are waiting.
"Ready to make the official announcement?" Audrey says. "Your parents already gathered everyone."
I smile and nod as Ben looks at me. We walk to the balcony where our parents wait just inside. "Congratulations you two."
Ben walks out first and while he talks, Evie comes up behind me. "You'll do great!"
She pushes me forward and I stumble before grabbing Ben's hand. "Your future queen!" We stand there, smiling and waving for a while before walking back in.
Almost immediately, Evie and the girls drag me away and out the door. "Where are we going?" I ask.
"We have work to do. I need dets for the dress. When is the wedding? Bridesmaids?"
"We haven't talked about that!" I say. Pulling out my phone, I text Ben to meet us at Evie and I's apartment. He arrives a couple of minutes after us but the girls won't stop talking.
"Color schemes," Audrey says. "Any ideas?"
Before I respond, Evie is showing me a tablet. "Flag anything that could be a base idea for the dress and we can go from there."
I look at Ben who looks confused by everything. "Ladies, calm down. We have plenty of time. We don't even have a date set for the wedding. Plus, I think your overwhelming poor Mal."
