"We're almost there!" I cheer. We can see the castle up ahead. "Come on!" I run ahead, Jayden at my side and Rosie behind us. We stop before the gates to the castle.

"We made it," Jayden whispers. "We're here!" He smiles and grabs my hand, holding it tight before dragging me along. I laugh as we make it to the front and past the guards. They run after us and we split up. I open every door, look through every closet, trying to find Uncle Jay. As I run out of another room, the guards catch me. Thinking fast, I camouflage my bag to be a part of me as they drag me away. I see Jayden and shake my head, telling him to stay quiet.

I'm brought to a throne room where there are two people sitting on the thrones. The man looks startled as I break free of the guards. "What's your name, young lady?"

"Why should I tell you anything?" I ask. "You're keeping me here!"

"You broke into my home," he replies. "It is a great offense to break into someone's home." He walks down and kneels before me. "Please, what's your name? Where are your parents?"

I turn to him and spit on his clothes. "Because of you, my mommy is sick. And she isn't gonna get better! You're killing my mommy!" I sob, kicking out at him. I catch a good kick on his shin and he falls back, clutching his leg. I turn away but not before seeing shock drawn across his face.

"Where did you get that?!" he asks, pointing at my neck.

I reach up and touch my necklace. "I can't remember. I've had it since before I could remember."

"Let me see it. Please!" He practically begs.

I shake my head. "Mommy said never to take it off. She wouldn't tell me why but it's a rule. I get in trouble when I do."

"Guards!" he calls. They grab my arms, lifting me up. He unclasps the necklace, holding it in his hands. "Take her to a room in the castle and lock her in there until I can get to the bottom of this for her crimes of theft and breaking in. Guard her day and night until I see fit what to do with her." They sling me over one of their shoulders and drag me away.

I'm set down in a room and the door is shut. I pound at it furiously, tears streaming down my cheeks. "Please!" I shout. "Let me out! Mommy is dying and it's all your fault! Please!" I slide down the door, crying until I can no more. Eventually, I jump onto the bed and curl up, trying to hide from the world.

As Abby is dragged away, I find Rosie and follow them. I watch as the king takes her necklace and sends her away. Rosie covers my mouth and catches me before I can go after her. I don't even see where they take her. Rosie takes me out of the castle. We're hiding in the forest near a lake when she finally lets me go. "Why did you stop me?! My sister is in danger!"

"And you can't help her right now," she screams. "You can't help her. If you get yourself caught, then she's not going to get help."

"You don't understand. That necklace, the one the king took, it keeps her healthy. She's sick. She was born that way. Our mom cast a spell on that ring she wears to help her stay healthy. But she didn't tell Abby, just me and our brother. Abby doesn't know what not having that necklace could do to her."

"How long do we have?" Rosie asks.

I think for a minute before looking up. "A couple days before she's really sick. I don't remember anything before she got the necklace. There's no way to know. Maybe Ben could help but Abby has the spell book."
