The room around me had changed color. Everything was now in varying shades of blue hues. I waved my hand in front of my face. It moved so slowly! Where my hand previously was, a blue blur replaced it before fading away.
"What is this?" I asked Companion. He was silent for a few moments before answering me.
I believe that is not for me to answer. But I will tell you this, one of your powers has awakened.
I sat in stunned silence. One of my powers? As in superpowers? Say what? If I wasn't confused enough earlier, I definitely am now.
"Ok, Iris, get a grip. Slow down."
Well, you've already slowed down.
I moved my hand once more. Companion was right. I already have slowed down, technically. I wonder why my thought is process normal though. You'd think that would be slowed down too. Is my speech slowed down?
"Heeeellooooo?" My voice stretched out as if it was recorded and edited. This was so weird! How did this even happen? I buried my head in my hands and groaned. With a sigh sat back up and thought back to what had happened moments ago.
Clover came in and tried to explain how I knew things already. Then she got upset when I was confused and gave me a white square. I sat there confused... Then I asked why couldn't the world slow down a bit. That was my answer! I wanted the world to slow down, so it did. But why? Questions, questions! So many questions. I wish they would all be answered. I slumped forward in slow motion.
Well sfor someone who just woke up today, you're doing pretty good in handling everything.
"What do you mean?"
...Most people have meltdowns. They start screaming and crying while sputtering gibberish. At least the ones who awaken early do. Perhaps since you awakened only 2 years before you were supposed to aided in your control. But a power already awakened...
Is it bad that a power inside me had already awakened? Nevermind. I'm not even going to ask about that. He'd only say, "That's not for me to tell you." or something to that degree. I felt Companion smile.
Right you are.
Suddenly I heard alarms blaring. Each ring lasted so long. I no longer wanted the world to be slowed down.
"Become normal!" I thought. Nothing happened. Panic started to swell within me. What if I can't change everything back to normal? "I wish the world would become faster!" I tried again to no avail.
Calm yourself, Iris. Your panic will only make it worse.
You know, having a voice inside your head is really lovely sometimes.
I tried to squish my fear until I felt calm. I closed my eyes and tried to drown out the noise. The alarms were still going off and I could hear voices outside the door now. Everything still felt like it was happening so quickly even though it was happening slowly. I suppose that means too much is happening for anything to really be slowed down.
I heard the door open. It make a creaking sound that seemed to last for ages. I felt hands grab my shoulders. My eyes flew open, kinda. It was Merida. A very blue Merida. She was saying something urgently but I couldn't hear her through the noise of the alarms.
"Whhaaaaat?" I asked her, not even sure if she heard me. I wasn't even sure what I just said came out normal!
Josiah was beside Merida now, their faces etched with concern. Was something wrong? You know, besides the entire world slowing down. Merida turned to Josiah and nodded grimly. He produced a syringe with a needle tip from his coat pocket and handed it over to Merida. My eyes widened. I recognized the object as something that gives you your shots. Whatever that means. Was she going to stick me with it?
Merida cleaned the tip, then grabbed my arm. I would've been fascinated by how the process was moving so slowly if I wasn't terrified. She stuck me with the needle and I flinched. It hurt! It felt like something bit me. And the pain! The pain was lasting so long. Confusion and pain overtook my facial features as I stared helplessly at Merida and Josiah. I blinked a few times, my eyes getting heavy. I swayed to the right and before I could fall, Josiah caught me. Suddenly, the world went back to normal as it had never slowed down. The alarms stopped blaring seconds later.
"-be alright." I heard the end of what Merida was saying. I slipped into darkness.
