What an experience that had been.
The thought of letting the water warm up never occurred to me until it was too late. Freezing cold water blasted my entire being. I cried out before quickly shutting off the water. I could feel Companion laughing.
"It's not funny!" I thought indignantly.
Yes it is.
"Companion!"
Push the lever that's poking out of the facet down. That way, while the water is warming up, you won't get blasted with cold water.
"Thank you!"
I pushed the lever down before turning the water on again. Water rushed down from the facet, splashing my feet. I shrieked as I stepped back from the cold water.
One more thing I forgot to mention, step back, that way the water doesn't touch you.
"A little late for that." I thought dryly.
Eventually, the water warmed up. Not wanting it to be too hot, I turned the hot water down and turned the cold water up. I played with the settings until it was just right.
Pulling the lever back up, I stepped back quickly, as to not let the water touch me yet in case it was still cold for a moment. That resulted in me slipping and falling on my bum. I cried out in pain, which quickly turned to surprise as water blasted on me. Sputtering, I stood up, wiping the water from my eyes.
"Not a word."
Companion walked me through the steps of how to clean myself and what to use. Now I'm all fresh and clean.
I glanced at the clock on my bed table. 19:47
Yikes, it's almost time for the family meeting. Quickly, I flung off my towel and strode over to my dresser, picking out the proper undergarments.
What were pajamas though?
You wear them to bed. They're in your closet. There's a few nightgowns to choose from.
"Ah, okay."
I walked over to my closet and opened it, illuminating a few nightgowns and some nice dresses. In the end, I wound up picking the simplest looking nightgown out of all of them. It was a light purple with an iris flower on the front. The nightgown fit snugly on my petite frame, the skirt swishing as I walked about.
I spied purple slippers at the front of my bed that weren't there before. Someone must have put them there during dinner.
I checked the time again. 17:54
Crumbs! I better get going. I quickly made my way into the corridor but then abruptly stopped. I had no idea where family meetings took place. I stared at the wall dumbfounded. How in the world was I supposed to get there if I didn't know where it is?
"Ahem!" I jumped, then turned around. Honey golden eyes stared back at me, silver flecks alight. I stared, recognizing them.
"Aurum?" The boy in front of me frowned.
"Why does everyone mistake me for that bumble brain?" I flushed.
"I-I'm sorry. I've just awakened today so I don't know a lot of people..." I trailed off. The-boy-who-looked-like-Aurum was already walking away, shaking his head.
Nice one Iris. You've already offended someone. I watched his retreating figure for a bit, then I remembered that I still didn't know where family meetings took place.
"Wait! Where do you family meetings take place?" The-boy-who-looked-like-Aurum paused for a moment, then turned around.
"Follow me." He continued walking forward, not bothering to wait for me. I speed walked to catch up to him, but I didn't walk right next to him. I followed him a few paces back.
He glanced back, I'm assuming to see if I was following him. Then he looked the other way. I studied his back. He wore a honeycomb pajama set, to match his eyes. The boy had dark brown hair that was short cropped. The more I stared at him, the more I realized he didn't really look like Aurum at all.
We walked in silence, the only thing I could hear was the muffled steps of our slippers. We made a couple turns here and there until we came upon a room marked: FAMILY ROOM
"Here we are." The boy said dryly. He must still be mad at me because I mistook him for Aurum. I attempted to make peace.
"Hey, I'm sorry for mistaking you for another person, but you could be nicer."
That's a rather blunt way to 'make peace'.
"Yeah, that came out harsher than intended. Too late now."
The boy's eyes narrowed, then softened.
"I'm sorry, I'm just tired of it. My name is Comb by the way. You're Iris, right?" I looked at him surprised. He knew my name.
"Yeah."
"Well, come on, let's head inside." Comb opened the door for me and I stepped inside. Several pairs of eyes looked over and focused their gaze on me. If I were to choose a power to have, it would be invisibility at this moment.
