Chapter 2

° Haru's P.O.V. °

"Haru, you can't go!" Makoto tells me for what feels like the hundredth time. "Makoto, I'll be fine. I have to do this."

I'm going to the beach I went to 12 years ago. I haven't gone before because I was never really ready, I guess it was too hard for me. I can't help but wonder what the boy with shark teeth looks like now.

"He'll be fine. I'll even let him take my lucky necklace." Nagisa hands me a necklace that has been passed down in his family for generations. "Some people in my family say that if you're wearing this necklace when you get to land you turn into a human! I've never tried it before but I really want to."

"Thanks, Nagisa. Well, I'm off." I swim away before Makoto can tell me to stop. I'll be at the beach in a tail flap of a minute!

■ Minutes later ■

I surface to see the shore and the first thing I see is sharkboy, he's really grown up. I want to talk to him. Let's see if this necklace really works.

I swim a little farther down the beach where it is isolated. "Here goes nothing." I drag myself out of the water and wait a few seconds.

Laboosh labaaa laboom!

It worked! I try to stand up but fall, once I finally get on my feet I try to walk. I stumble a bit at first but I finally get the hang of it and head to where sharkboy is sitting.

"Um, hi." I say, he looks up at me. I can see the pain in his eyes and it hurts me. "I'm Haru."

"Eyes as blue as the ocean."
