It was two weeks until it was time for my family to host Christmas and my family was in a blaze, trying to out do the Knights for whatever reason. I was Saturday and Jason had asked me if I would be willing to make a trip down to La Push to hang out with him for the day. I was unsure at first but after consulting with EJ I agreed. EJ had said he had "family bonding" to do anyways. His only rule was he bring me down to La Push. I mean I can drive myself, but I let anyways.

There I sat in EJ's new Chevy truck. It was black and Kristy had almost put purple flowers on it with car paint, but she had managed to get purple pokadots on it before EJ had found her. It was funny because EJ and his dad had gone to a hardware store and they didn't have any black paint left. I was smiling at the remembrance and EJ looked at me sideways and asked, "What you giggling at, little dove?" I snickered, and said, "Oh I was remembering the paint." EJ bit on his lower lip and said, "Yeah, I need to get black paint!"

"Did you trying going back to the store?" I asked, knowing the answer was yes. "Yeah, they said they had sold the last bottles of paint to a cute young lady," EJ replied bitterly. I tried to hide the smile forming on my face, because I was that young lady. "I'm sorry," I replied, putting my hand gently on his arm. He shrugged and pulled up to Jason's one story cottage looking house. Jason was eagerly waiting outside, giving a stern EJ a kiss I jumped out of the truck.

As soon as I was almost to Jason, EJ flipped the truck around, and sped off. "Hey cutie," Jason said, giving me a hug. I punched him playfully and said, "What did I say about calling me cutie?" Jason smirked, "It is rude and disrespectful since you are not my girlfriend." I laughed, standing on my tip toes to pat his head. He chuckled and slightly put his hand on my back, leading me into his house.

Jason's dad was standing at the stove, cooking something that didn't smell horrible. "Hey Mr. Write," I said to him. He looked up giving me a smile replied, "Hey Katerina, nice to see you down here!" I laughed and flashed him a smile. Jason led me down the hall to his room and signaled me to sit on his bed. "Close your eyes," he instructed. I closed them, my senses tingling.

I heard Jason come back into the room, he did not tell me to open my eyes. I felt pressure on the bed and something went around my neck. Was he going to strangle me??!! The pressure didn't last for long and something fell on the hollow of my neck. A Necklace! I felt my face smile and Jason told me I could open my eyes. "There's a mirror in the bathroom," Jason told me. I nodded, getting up, and found the bathroom.

To my astonishment the necklace was made out of wood, it was what looked like maybe a bear paw print. It was beautiful! I smiled at myself in the mirror. Soundlessly Jason had entered the bathroom and asked, "Like it?" I turned to Jason, smiling, and said, "I can't even say how much I love it Jason! It is beautiful!" Jason flashed me a small smile and I gave him a hug.

My phone vibrated in my pocket and I pulled it out. It was my mom.

     "Mom?"

"Hey sweetie, do you know where--ahh."

     "Mom?"

      "I'm all right, found it!"

I hit the end button and laughed. "'What did she want?" asked Jason. I shook my head and said, "The world may possibly never know." He chuckled and started walking out of the bathroom. i followed him as he started walking outside I got curious. The temperature was surly dropping, but I hugged my jacket around me, following Jason to where ever he was going to lead me. He led me to the beach, where the sand was turning a pale color of white.

Jason turned to me and asked, "Katerina, do you like me?" I didn't know how to respond to that. "Jason, I like you as a friend but--," He cut me off and said, "No more, right? EJ will only ever be your first priority?" I shook my head, "Not necessarily. Family comes first. EJ and you come second. Then everyone else." He tilted his head and said, "EJ and I?" I nodded and he smiled. He picked me up, in a twirling hug and then set me down.

Without warning Jason kissed me. I tried breaking it, once I managed to pull free, I put all my weighted into punching his face. My hand rebounded of his face and it hurt so freakin' bad! "Ow!" I yelled. Jason face ever so slightly turned when I had punched him. "Katerina, I have metal in my face," he said, seriously. I clutched my throbbing hand and asked, "Metal in your face??" He nodded. "Like a robot!" I laughed, though tears fell.

He shook his head and said, "No not a robot, an idiot kid, and I wanna get you do a hospital." I shook my head and replied, "EJ's dad makes me feel less threatened." He gave me a questioning look, but moved on and gently took my arm leading to his beaten up pick up truck. "You only have a permit," I objected and he said, "Well you have a license so hence I am riding with a licensed driver." I rolled my eyes and got into the car.

With my uninjured hand I dialed EJ's number and he picked up after the first ring. "Katerina, what's wrong?" I laughed and asked, "Why would you say something was wrong?" He snorted and asked, "Is there?" I sighed and said, "Yeah, is your dad home?" He paused then replied, "Yep." I watched the trees go by and then said, "Meet us outside please." "Love you!" I said and hung up.

The whole ride there i found out how Jason had gotten metal in his face. When he was younger he had done some stuff and the result to that was the doctors put metal in certain parts on his face to "patch up" certain part. Why they used metal, I was never going to know.

We reached EJ's house and him and his father was waiting outside, like I had asked of them. I got out of the car and EJ sprinted to me, looking me up and down. Dr. Knight came over to me and I showed him my hand, which was swelling. He took it gently and examined it. "Hmm," he said. "I think you may have fractured it, I need x-rays to be certain though. How did it happen?" I bit my lip and then said, "I punched Jason in the face, because he kissed me."

EJ charged at him, tackling him to the ground. I admired his self restraint from punching him in the face, instead he sat on top of him. Angrily EJ said, "Jason Write don't you dare touch her again! If she wants you to kiss her, she will ask!" I had stepped forward reacting to EJ charging at Jason, but keeping his eyes on Jason, EJ slowly stood. I eyed him and stood back, wrapping an arm around my waist. Jason stood, eyeing us.

"Thank you," I said, unsuccessfully trying to easy the tension that kept building. Jason nodded, getting back into his car, he drove off, speeding down the driveway. "Okay Katerina, I will put you in a brace, just to secure your wrist." I nodded and followed Dr. Knight into the house.  Dr. Knight put a brace over my wrist, but I couldn't get the haunting image of Jason's eyes as he left. Cold as coal, they were angry, but also sad.

I had started crying, over pain, but not on my wrist but of the pain I was causing Jason. He loved me, I couldn't love him back. My heart was with EJ, ever since those green eyes gazed upon me. I played with the necklace on my throat. How could I be stupid! I knew something ever since day one, leading Jason on, was not healthy!

EJ was trying to coo me, it wouldn't work. "Where is the necklace from?" asked EJ. "It was a Christmas present from Jason," I answered. "He loved you," EJ said, simply. I nodded, wiping tears with my uninjured hand. I looked into EJ's brilliant green eyes and said, "I love you and Jason will never be more than a brother." I had been standing and EJ pulled me onto his lap. Stroking my hair he said, "Katerina, I've never looked at another girl the way I look at you. When I wake up it is a pleasure to know that you're mine.

"I want you to know, that if you were ever to leave me, I would be devastated, but your my little dove, and as long as I get to see you each day at school, I will live." I sighed, leaning against his chest, I reached up to play with one of his curls, and said, "EJ I don't know another you, I don't know a world were you aren't with me. I felt like I've known you for my 16 years of life. I don't care if you are 18 and a junior, because of getting held back. I don't care about any impurities that we both posses.

"Jason has metal in his face." I got a chuckle out of him, he shook his head and said, "A robot?" I smiled, my tongue peeking slightly out of my teeth, "He is a pretty messed up kid." EJ gently took my hurt hand in his and said, "Yeah, that metal hurt you though, one messed up kid he will become." I shook my head, making my eyes pleading, "EJ, please no hurting Jason. He has done many wrongs, I know, but I don't think i could live with him hurt or you, which ever way the battle goes."

"Don't stress, little dove," he said, kissing my head. I smiled and softly said, "I trust you." With that we had an agreement that Jason was not to be hurt, no matter what stupid things he does. The rest of the day was calm and in bed that night I had a dreamless sleep.
