~Happy 16th Birthday~
It has been several years since all the events took place in my life, element of surprise has left me, and I was now turning sixteen. A year older than Jason and two years younger than EJ. Life of fame and fortune surrounded me though I loved my small life here in Forks. Where quiet is the only reason I tend to dwell here and the fact that my family loves it and as do I.
Growing up is a matter that crosses my mind, taking steps through the moss covered grounds of the woods beyond my house. Just this morning i had taken a driving test and passing it. Dawning apon me though was the true fact that I was 16 years old, no longer an adolescent, but not yet adulthood, crossroads I guess. My mom said I was 'forbidden' to take a step outside, but I snuck out to meet EJ, though I shield my eyes away from any potential party spots.
I pulled out my new Blackberry Torch and texted EJ, asking him where he was again. The forest was green, beautiful yes, but endless variety of trees and plants. Getting lost in here was my middle name, confusing paths sometimes led me to god knows where. Hours I have explored this forest in search of head clearing space. I smiled to myself and my phone vibrated.
Meet me by the pond, little dove.
EJ loved the nickname little dove for me. Of course he has used it for a long time now and I love it as well. I wished I had worn something better than my old high heeled boots, but it didn't matter. I had made my final descant up into where I had found a pond. It had a bridge that crossed over it and it was magical. Moss was stuck on the top and plants grew out of the water.
Out of the perimeter of it was many marsh type lands that your feet got stuck in, since plants blocked your vision of it. Wondrous is how I described it, EJ however described it as Beauteous. EJ stood in the middle of the bridge, his curly black hair moving slightly in the breeze. I smiled, and skipped lightly up to him. He turned to me, smiling his dazzling smile. He took me in an embrace and kissed my forehead. "Happy Birthday, Katerina!" he said. I smiled, feeling my face flush.
"So, did one someone, pass one some's driving test?" he asked. I smiled, nodding my head, "Yes, one someone did pass, one someone's driving test." He took me in another hug spinning me around this time, "When can I see it?" he demanded in a question. I shrugged and said, "Next week maybe I dunno. I had to sneak out to meet you, my moms on a prowl."
He nodded, "I heard, you are so brave Katerina Tyler, tremendously brave. To sneakaway from your own mother..." he stopped a second, and I assumed for a dramatic pause, then continued, "How unmistakably brilliant!' I playfully pushed him, he was grinning from ear to ear. I held onto his hand, as we stared off into the woods, I imagining what it would be like to run with the animals in there. Resting my head against EJ's shoulder I thought:
I was a deer, leaping through the uncharted forest, no one tracking me. Blissfully free of hunters or other predators. I had a family three little ones and a Strong male deer to protect me from any danger that may lurk. I felt the vibrations, before the fear could hit. Wolves. Wolves were coming out of the hills for unknown reasons and I ran, though my lover did not.
He stood his ground against the leader wold, the alpha..What ever was about to happen in my day dream didn't because I was shaken by EJ. I shook my head, 'What sorry? I was daydreaming." He smiled and said, "It's okay little dove, You'd better be getting ready for your party, I will meet you there." I nodded and ran off into the forest to get prepared for my moment.
It was around six o'clock when I heard my mom crank on the radio outside. I had leneded her my ipod with a play list of specific songs to make sure she played. It took me awhile but I had finally curled all my hair and taking a clip I put it half up, half down. For this occasion I had picked out a dark blue dress, lighter than black, but not by too much. It had ruffles on the bottom and the top was a criss-cross V neck. It exposed just the right amount of body.
I traded in my heeled boots for black heeled shiny shoes. Luckily I got a stub heel and not a stlietto. I smiled at myself. I had gotton my tan back while I was in LA for shooting a movie and I was facinated with my outfit. Self-centered, I can be. I heard my mom's bangingfootsteps clutter up the stairs as she threw open the door to my room. "Ready?" she asked, with a dazed smile. I nodded and I was escorted out through the front door and around to where I heard the music the loudest.
"Wait here," she whispered, leaving me behind what looked like a stage. "Testing, one, two three, this thing is on, right?" my mom's voice came through the speaker, loud and clear. "Okay it is, now it is time to prsent the birthday girl, Katerina, come on stage!" Obediently, I walked up the stairs and onto the stage. The spotlight blinded me, though i was used to it enough that I didn't shield my eyes.
"Give it up for the new Forks driver, police better be on alert," my mother said. I could feel my face blush, brighter than the blush that I had put on my face, though I did not need it. The clapping aroused me, made me feel stronger. When the light was pulled away from my face, I shakily headed down the stairs. Normally when the spotlight was off me it was lighter in the place where I was at, unfortunately, my mom had decided to hand paper lanterns instead.
The hands that helped me down the stairs, where those of my father. "Thanks," I breathed. He chuckled a little and said, "Don't want the birthday girl to have a broken nose, do we?" I laughed shaking my head. "Your friends our over there." he pointed to an abandon looking corner of the party where Elena, Jason, Alicia, Grace, and EJ stood. All my close friends in close proximity.
I felt myself skip over there in excitement. They greeted me with open arms, each giving me a hug and a ''happy birthday''. I smiled at them and said, "Thank you." EJ rapped an arm around my waist, though Jason looked slightly uncomfortable he said nothing. "Are you enjoying your party, birthday girl?" asked Elena, sounding excited.
"Oh, Katerina, do I get any attention?" I heard a voice call and I flipped around to see Nina Dobrev walking towards us. "Nina!" I squealed and ran to hug her. "Hey, happy birthday, girlie! 16, you're getting pretty old," she teased. I laughed and said, "Thanks for coming!" She smiled, "No prob, sorry I can't stay too much longer, I didn't have much time to come up. I had to see you though!" We had worked in another movie together and were now besties.
This night was complete, all my friends here in one place. I smiled in accomplishment. My dad was at the microphone and he started speaking, "My daughter, my wonderful daughter is almost grown up and today she has receivedher driver's license so she is free to roam where ever. Leave the coop as my father had called it, I have decided I will give her the veichle to provide her with that freedom," I could swear I saw a tear starting to form.
A sheet was tugged off something and what was revealed was a dark blue 2011 Jeep Wrangler. I screamed in excitment and ran to it. I looked to my father on the stage; he was smiling and I yelled the words, "Thank you." To him. I yanked open the door and found the keys inside. I started the engine and found that there was a GPS in it and all sorts of other bells and whistles. I smiled shaking my head, I turned off the car, taking the key I hopped out.
The rest of my party went over in excitement, fun dancing, entertaining games, and most of all my loved ones around me at all times. "Happy 16th Birthday," I told myself as I fell asleep that night. Yes, it truly had been a happy birthday.
