Kirstie's Point of View:

My arms felt so sore. So... so sore. All I wanted to do was move them down to my sides, ease my suffering. I almost couldn't look at the man. He had hurt me... scared me so much. He walked over to Avi, tracing the knife along his throat and laughing when Avi started to cry.

"If your friends don't get here soon, this beardy guy's going to die first." He said, laughing again at his own wording. I felt nauseous. How could someone be so sick as to laugh about killing someone? I swallowed harshly, pushing the bile that was attempting to spill out of my mouth back down my throat. I couldn't show any sort of weakness in front of this man.

I tried to speak and threaten the man to prove my strength, but all that came out was a whimper, and my throat stung so badly I couldn't even whisper. He looked up at me, glaring.

"What was that, honey?" He asked me, grinning toothily at me. His teeth were multiple shades of brown and yellow, and I cringed, looking away.

"LOOK AT ME WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU!" He screamed, reaching up to grab my face and yank it in his direction. "...Now tell me, what did you want to say?" He removed the tape from my mouth. His hand was cold. Freezing cold.

"... Please don't hurt him... Any of us... Please." Was all I managed to croak out, making my throat hurt even more. I couldn't risk having the man hurt me or anyone else, so I had to speak.

He rolled his eyes, and put a fresh piece of duct tape over my mouth, as tears start to form in my eyes. He walked back over to Avi, and looked back at me.

"You mean don't do this?" He asked, pressing his knife into Avi's shoulder and dragging it down the entirety of his arm. Avi screamed agonizingly loud. I had never heard anyone scream like that before. It scared me a lot.

The man then moved to Kevin. "Or this?" He stabbed his knife into Kevin's leg. Emitting another horrific, terrified scream.

Finally, he walked over to me, placing his blade in my leg as well. It hurt. It hurt so bad. I screamed so loud that my scream simply stopped in the middle, my throat completely shut down... and I knew I wouldn't be able to talk for a while. I looked down to see blood trickling down my leg and puddling up on the floor. I hated blood. I hated the look of it, the smell of it, the sight of it. I started to silently sob even louder at the sight of all of the blood.

The man got an alert on his phone. He picked it up and mumbled something under his breath that sounded like, "Goddamn it." He looked at all three of us. "I'll be back. Don't cause any trouble." He muttered before leaving and slamming the basement door behind him.

Mitch's Point of View:

I woke up peacefully, forgetting everything that was happening. My ice pack had melted, so I just tossed off to the side, knowing I'd deal with it later. Then I remembered. Alex. Valerie. Avi. Kevin. Kirstie. Kidnapped. I started to cry softly, not wanting to have to live with this terror anymore.

Scott emerged from his room, looking frustrated, but when he saw me crying, his face immediately turned to a gentle one. He ran over to me and pulled me into a warm hug.

"Don't worry Mitch. We won't let anything happen to them. I'll make sure of it." He said into my shoulder.

"Maybe we should do what the note says." I whispered, not being able to think about what my life would be like without Avi, Kevin, and Kirstie. I didn't notice Valerie walk out of the guest room and stand in the hallway, listening.

"...Yeah. I was thinking that too. I mean, I love Valerie so much, but I just don't want to think about what that man will do to Avi, Kirstie, and Kevin." Scott agreed.

"So... when do we leave her?"

"...Right now...?" Scott said shakily, his voice almost a whisper. "If we just sneak out right now, she'll never know... oh gosh I feel so terrible. I don't want to do this... but we have to." Scott said nervously.

"Alright, let's just go." I said solemnly. I knew we shouldn't have been doing this, and I didn't want to leave Valerie, but I just had to save our friends. I would do whatever it took. Scott took my hand and helped me stand up.

"...So you guys don't really care about me..." I heard a shaky, small voice from behind me. I turned around to see the tiny figure of Valerie, cowering in fear.

I knelt down in front of her, placing a hand on her back comfortingly. "No no no Valerie, we care about you so much, we're just doing what's best. Don't worry about it, you'll be okay." I said. Oh no. She had heard us. She knew what we were going to do. I felt absolutely horrible, but I still knew that I couldn't leave Avi, Kevin, and Kirstie.

"Don't touch me!" She pulled away and backed up a little. "If you guys don't care, then just leave." She said coldly. Now Scott came over to her. "I'm so sorry Valerie, we just don't know what to do. We have to save our friends." He said.

"B-but I'm going to die... or be tortured or something." She whispered. Scott reached out to hug her, but she screamed, slapping him across the face. His eyes widened and he backed up into me, his hand coming up to the spot where she hit him.

Valerie's eyes turned bright pink and she started screaming, running around frantically and breaking things. She was breathing heavily and wasn't blinking. I had no idea what was going on but I knew I was terrified. Scott put an arm around me and led me towards the door, and we went to open it. He pushed me out into the hallway and slammed the door shut. As we started to run away though, we heard a faint voice call out.

"I-I'm sorry."
