"Mark..! Don't fucking do this," Jack yelled across the rooftop, running towards Mark, quickly gaining closer after every step.
Jack stopped once he was a few feet away from the other man, tears running down both of their faces.
As Mark held up the gun to his head, he was searching for words.
"Jack..." Mark began, his bottom lip trembling.
"Mark, please," Jack said, quieter this time, "I need you."
"You're fucking lying," Mark cried out, "You don't care if I live or die."
"Goddammit, Mark!" Jack said, sobbing himself, "I fucking love you!"
Mark stopped, slightly lowering the gun, then moving it back to it's original place, "I love you, too, Jack..."
Then he pulled the trigger.
Mark's body fell to the ground, limp. Jack screamed and cried even harder than before, running to Mark's lifeless body and cradling his bleeding head. Jack looked down at Mark, tears falling onto the slightly older man's face.
"M-Mark," Jack choked out, his tears blurring his vision so much that he couldn't even see anymore, "Oh my god... Mark..."
As Jack sobbed, he saw Mark's life fade away right in front of his own eyes. He didn't want to remember it, but he would for the next several years, if not his whole life.
Every so often he found happiness, but his mind always reverted back to seeing Mark's body fall to the ground with a thump.
He often dreamt about Mark, found himself falling in love with him all over again through the pleasant dreams, the dreams always ending with Mark's death, to which Jack always wakes up from in sobs.
Years and years went on. Jack eventually found another man and got married, adopting a puppy and a child, but Jack still loved Mark.
Jack rarely spoke about Mark. He would every once in a while, but he didn't want to dwell on it too much.
Unfortunately whilst Mark was still alive, he and Jack never dated, though they acted like they were in a relationship most of the time. Jack didn't even realize how much he loved Mark until it was too late.
Even though it'd been nearly ten years since Mark's passing, Jack still sometimes cried himself to sleep, to just wake up in a panic, remembering Mark's death in vivid detail.
His husband awoke whenever Jack woke up in screams and sobs.
Jack's husband would usually ask if he had another dream about Mark, to which Jack would always respond with a nod.
He would always pull Jack into an embrace, and let Jack cry into his chest until he fell back asleep.
Jack knew it was unhealthy, but there wasn't really anything he could do about it. He did see a therapist, and he had medication for depression, but the pills couldn't take away the pain Jack felt every single day.
Jack was happy to have someone to share his life with. He was happy to be a father, but there was a hole in his heart that only Mark could fill.
Jack felt as if his life could've been better if Mark had never done what he did all those years ago. They could've had a life together. They could've made more memories together and lived a happy life.
Jack didn't know what caused Mark to do that, but he wished Mark would've thought about what he was doing before he did it.
Jack would never forget the day that his best friend - whom he also loved - took his life.
