"And here's your room. We hope you enjoy being here at this school," An administrator of the college said to Jack after showing him to his dorm room, "Your roommate is already settled in and he's probably inside."

"Thank you," Jack said with a smile. She walked away and Jack opened the door, seeing no one.

He closed the door behind him and called out, "Hello?"

Soon enough, a strongly built man walked into a line of view. He had red dyed hair and glasses, "Oh hey, you must be Sean. I'm Mark."

"It's Jack," Jack corrected, "It's a nickname that I prefer rather than my real name."

"Ah," Mark said, "I noticed your accent, where you from?"

"Ireland," Jack said.

"Oh," Mark said bluntly, "So what's your major?"

"Can we talk later? I need some help bringing some of my stuff in, could you please help?" Jack asked.

"Yeah, of course," Mark said with a smile.

So Mark helped Jack move the rest of the way in. When they were settled, they sat down on their couch together on either side.

"So... what's your major?" Mark asked.

"Hotel management," Jack said, "I love talking to people and I feel like I'd be good at it. I just don't know if it's what I want to do for a living. Yours?"

"Lame," Mark commented about Jack's major.

"What's your major?" Jack asked.

"Bah, that doesn't matter."

Jack let in a sharp intake of breath, then breathed out again, "You asked the question first and I answered, now it's your turn, you idiot."

"Man, someone's getting worked up!" Mark laughed, "Watch out for Sean over here!"

"It's Jack," He snapped, extremely annoyed at this point.

"Sorry, Jack," Mark said as he stood, holding up both of his hands for a couple seconds before turning around and leaving the dorm room.

Jack sighed. In a few minutes, he, too, left the dorm room to explore around campus.

Jack returned to the room in a couple of hours after looking around and meeting a few people that he'd keep in touch with.

Mark still wasn't there when Jack got back, which didn't necessarily surprise Jack.

Jack went back to his bed and sat down, opening the music app on his phone and clicking shuffle after putting his earbuds in.

The dorms at this school were nice and larger than most dorms, so it separated the main room from the bedroom and there was another section to it where there was a really small kitchen area, there was also a small bathroom.

A few songs later, Mark walked in the dorm room. Jack took out his earbuds and turned off his music. He approached Mark.

"Look, Mark," Jack began, "We got off to a really bad start today..."

Mark nodded in agreement.

"Let's restart," Jack said, holding out his hand, "Hey! I'm Jack!"

Mark laughed, shaking Jack's hand, "Hey, Jack! I'm Mark."

They made small talk and laughed a bit. Then, there was silence.

"I never told you, and I was kind of an ass earlier," Mark began, "But I'm majoring in biomedical engineering."

"Oh, so you're a smarty?" Jack joked.

Mark chuckled, then sighed, "But I don't know if I want to do it for a living..."

"Yeah, that's my problem with my major, too," Jack sighed as well.

"Anyways," Mark said, beginning to change the subject, "Any reason as to why you left Ireland to come to America?"

"I've just been really interested in America and I've wanted to live here for a while, and I started searching on Google about different colleges over here, and this one seemed really good, so I moved over here like I always wanted to, and I enrolled here, so that's my story, I guess," Jack said with a small laugh.

"That's pretty cool," Mark commented, "I've lived in the U.S. for my whole life, but I was born in Hawaii. My dad was in the military, so we moved around a lot."

Jack smiled, "That's neat."

"Yeah, I guess," Mark said, shrugging.

They continued their conversation until they decided it was time for them to sleep. The next day was a full day of classes, and weeks would pass until Mark and Jack finally became very good friends.

Jack had later learned that Mark was interested in video games, and they'd just opened up to one another as a whole.

All of Jack's other friends around the campus were not accepting of Mark. They wrote him off as an insensitive prick that didn't care about anyone. They called him names frequently and Jack just didn't understand why they felt that way, for he knew Mark very well, unlike most others around him.

About two months after Jack first moved in, he was hanging out with his friend group, minus Mark, as they didn't like him.

His best friend - other than Mark - was named Skye. She had a lilac colored pixie haircut, and wore largely framed glasses the majority of the time, though she did wear contacts every so often. A few of his other friends were there as well. There was Levi, a man in his early twenties who had short brown hair. He wore a grey beanie.

Jack and his friends were at a restaurant not too far from the college campus. They told jokes and laughed with each other, and the topic somehow changed to Mark.

"Today in one of my classes, Mark was a total dickhead," Jack's friend named Mason said, going into a further explanation, "How can you stand to live with him, Jack?" He said.

Jack shrugged, "You guys always say how much of a dick he is, but he isn't to me. He's really sweet."

Levi laughed, "You can't be serious!"

"How many times do I have to tell you guys? Mark isn't like what you guys write him off to be!"

"Pft," Amelia, another one of Jack's friends said, "You're insane."

"Guys, stop," Skye said, knowing how Jack felt about Mark, "We're here to have a good time, not tease Jack because he's friends with Mark."

Everyone silently agreed and apologized a small apology to both Jack and Skye, then the group continued on with their positive conversation.
