The American and the Irishman were with each other, on Mark's couch with Wii controllers in each of their hands. They were in a rage against each other as they played Mario Kart 8, Mark in the lead and Jack following close behind.

"I'm gonna getcha, Marki," Jack said with a playful scowl, though Mark was too focused on the screen to pay attention to Jack's facial expressions.

"In your dreams," Mark said, confident that he would win, though Jack was right on his tail.

"You're going down," Jack said, both to Mark and himself, right as he passed Mark on the final lap, "Yes!" Jack exclaimed.

"No!" Mark said, "I was ahead for so long!"

Jack laughed as he passed the finish line in first place, Mark soon passing in second, "You prick!" Mark laughed.

"I warned you," Jack said with a victorious smile.

"Well, congrats anyways," Mark said, holding out his hand for a handshake.

Jack went to shake hands with Mark, but Mark quickly pulled his hand away with a small laugh.

"Rude!" Jack said, still laughing in the slightest.

"What can I say," Mark laughed, "It's what I am."

"An asshole is what you are," Jack said.

"Once again, you are correct."

After a few short moments of a comfortable silence, Mark broke it, "I demand a rematch."

"No way! I won fair and square," Jack said.

"Oh, come on," Mark said, "This one's for all the beans. And if you win, you can choose what game we play next, and vice versa if I'm the winner, which I will be."

"Fine," Jack answered, "I'm gonna kick your ass."

"You wish," Mark laughed.

They started a new level, Mark getting the boost and Jack missing it, already putting Mark ahead of him.

"Dammit!" Jack yelled, then shrugged it off with a small laugh, "It's fine, I'll just have to catch up again."

"Like you'll even be able to," Mark said, getting a power up which happened to be a red shell. He threw it backwards, hitting Jack, and putting him even more behind in the race, two NPCs passing him.

"Mark!" Jack yelled, Mark laughing in response.

"Suck it!" Mark yelled out, a huge grin plastered on his face.

The race went on similarly to that previously, Jack almost passing Mark until Mark inevitably beat Jack.

"I got all the beans!" Mark exclaimed, Jack responding with a laugh.

"No! Not my beans!" Jack said, all the while still dying of laughter.

"Hey, don't feel bad," Mark said, pretending to be sympathetic, "It's not your fault that you just suck at Mario Kart!"

"Don't be a douche!" Jack shouted with a grin.

"Too late for that," Mark said, getting almost uncomfortably close to Jack's face with a smirk.

Jack moved back a couple inches but was smiling.

But Mark just moved closer, and closer, until they were kissing.

Jack quickly, oh so quickly, pulled away, a very confused expression strewn across his face.

Mark shied away, his mood changing quite dramatically, "I... I'm sorry."

"M-Mark, I-I..." Jack said, his cheeks red in embarrassment, not knowing what to say, "I need to go."

Jack quickly gathered his things together, and without a goodbye, left.

"I'm so fucking stupid," Mark muttered under his breath as he ran his fingers through his hair, "What was I thinking?!"

After that day, the two men rarely spoke. Eventually, they stopped talking all together.

A few years passed and Jack was married. His wife was a few months pregnant and he was happy.

Mark, on the otherhand, was not. After the kiss, he soon found out he was gay, and couldn't find anyone to share his life with. So he just stayed home most days, not really doing much of anything anymore, other than YouTube.

He was lost.
