I wake up feeling a whole lot better than I did before falling asleep. I'm not seeing in double, so I take this time to look around and I see a note on my nightstand.
Get dressed. We will be waiting for you downstairs.
I get up and see some of my clothes folded on top of a chair by the window. What is this place? Why am I even here? None of this is making any sense, but I'm sure I can speak to this Simon guy and get things all sorted out. I slip on the clothes and leave the room.
I take the stairs down and the first thing I see is the front door. A quick thought passes my mind; you can make it. I take a step forward, then I hear a voice.
"Well, I'm sure I can break it to Simon." I turn to see Elijah leaning against a door frame. "I mean he is being stood up, but still. He is a tough guy. He'll get over it." Elijah is smiling, but at the same time looks rather annoyed.
"I don't belong here," I say quickly.
"How would you even know that without hearing the guy out?" Elijah stands up straight now and turns around. "Now you can go if you want, but trust me, you don't. You are going to want to have a listen." He walks away and I take a long look towards the door. You can make it. I mean they know where I live right? Even if I leave, all they have to do is go get me.
I walk past the double doors Elijah came from to see it lead to a fairly large living room. Each wall is covered from ceiling to floor in bookshelves filled with books. I have to admit; that I'm kind of in love. To the far right of the room, there is an arch opening leading to a dining area. There I can see Cal standing with her hair pulled into a loose ponytail and talking to someone out of my view. I take a couple of steps and I can hear them faintly.
"She will come," Elijah says.
"You should have made sure. You should have brought her in here." Cal sounds tired. I almost feel bad for her, but I am the kidnap victim.
"She will come," Elijah says angrily.
"Both of you calm down." Simon. Must be. "We have waited this long, we can wait a little longer. Her whole life is about to change. Give her time to adjust." Her whole life is about to change. That statement makes my head spin. I take a step back but crash into a coffee table. Cal turns around and a smile grows on her face.
"Tyler." She puts down a plate and comes up to me. I look past her to see an older man, mid-40s maybe, walking up to us. I catch a quick glimpse of Elijah looking at me, but he just gets up and walks away.
"Tyler, my name is Simon Karas. This is my house," he says while gesturing around, "and I know you have met Calliah and Elijah." He is dressed in a white shirt with black pants, plain.
"Yeah, um, I have." I am uneasy and Cal is holding onto my left arm.
"We should get you some food," Simon says. "Come. Calliah has made breakfast." When I don't respond Simon's hands fall to his sides. "I can assure you, she is a wonderful cook." I nod and Cal helps me to the table.
"I didn't know what you'd like, so I made pretty much everything," Cal says with a smile. Now I can see the countertops are covered with food; pancakes, waffles, fruit, cereal, bacon, and anything else I could think of.
"This is fine." I pick up some fruit and take a bite. Refreshing. I look at Simon and swallow hard. "Why am I here?"
"Straight to the point then, huh? I like you already." Simon takes a seat across from me and takes a piece of fruit for himself. "We see in black and white only."
