I wake up early and peer outside. It's finally daytime, and we have a long day ahead of us. I nudge Paul.
"Wake up, sleepyhead." I say.
Paul groans and turns on his side. "Wake me up in five minutes."
"We don't have five minutes. We need to travel as far as we can."
"Okay, okay. Gimme a sec."
I wait as Paul collects all his maps. He stops to make a mark in his notebook, then puts it in his knapsack. We gather everything of ours and dig our way out of the hole.
"Where do we go?" I ask Paul. He looks in his notebook. Then, he checks his compass and a couple of his maps. After a minute, he points behind me.
"That way," he says.
"Then let's get moving."
We start to walk. After a couple of hours, I start to run. Paul runs after me. We've decided to make stops at villages whenever we reach them and gather some info about Steve, uh, Dad. Paul said that there is a village about eight hundred blocks from our little hideout, which is equal to about eight miles. I want to get to the village quickly.
After two miles, or two hundred blocks, I get tired and start to walk. So does Paul. We both take out apples and start to eat them to regain health. I'm about halfway through my apple whenever Paul suggests we take a rest. I agree, and we sit down under an oak tree.
While we rest, I take out my book and read it. Paul feeds our pets and lets them sit down in the shade. He organizes the things in his knapsack.
Finally, we get up to continue. It's about midday, and we've only gotten halfway. I put my book in my knapsack and get our pets to stand up. We start to walk.
"So... how do you feel?" Paul asks.
"About what?"
"You know, being Steve's daughter and all... I just thought that I'd be pretty happy if I were you."
"Yeah, I'm really excited."
"Really?" Paul raised an eyebrow. "How come you aren't squealing, screaming, jumping up and down, you know, stuff girls do when they're happy?"
I sigh. "I dunno, it's just... I guess it's the fact that he's missing-"
"Lost, not missing. C'mon, be optimistic."
"Well, lost, and we don't know where to look for him."
"Don't worry, we'll find him... if he doesn't find us first."
I smile. "Thanks."
After a few more hours of walking, I see something in the distance. I gasp.
"Is that a..."
"Yup." Paul says. "Well, what're you waiting for? Go!"
I smile and start running as fast as I can. Paul walks behind me. I reach the edge of the village before he does. It takes a moment for him to get here, but he does.
"So... where should we start?" I ask.
Paul taps his chin. "I dunno...maybe... that house, right over there?"
"Okay!" I sprint over to the house and peer through a window. There are weird people inside with huge noses and green eyes. Their hands look like they're stuck together.
"Hello?" I say, knocking on the door.
"Come in," says a woman's voice.
I gesture for Paul to follow me as I open the door. I notice that a small family lives in this house; a mom, dad, and a boy with a twin sister.
