Rachel's P.O.V.
I pant as we race through the woods. Paul and I have been running nonstop for over two hours now. I'm tired. I want to take a break. Just being able to stop for a minute and drink some water would be nice.
"Can't...we...just...stop...for...a...min...ute?" I ask wearily, between gasps for breath.
Paul looks at me. "No." he says. "Not...right...now. Just...a...little...farther."
I would groan, but I'm too busy using my breath to run. I take out a few apples and eat them as we go, getting a burst of energy.
Finally, we stop inside of a forest. Paul plops down under a tree and I do the same. We drink water and eat until we get our energy back. Paul looks at the map that Miriam gave us.
"It should be close... come on, let's get moving again." he says.
We get up and leave, but we walk now. We come to a clearing. Suddenly, lightning hit the middle of the clearing. It forced our eyes closed.
When we opened them, there was somebody standing there. He had the same color hair and clothes as me, except he was wearing pants instead of a skirt. Anybody else might have guessed that it was my dad because he kind of looked like me, but there is something very different. His eyes-they are white. No color. Just white. I know his name somehow... I just don't know what it is... I can't think of it.
"Wha-wha-what?" Paul exclaims. The man turns around and looks at us, but he focuses mainly on me. I'm not afraid, but I'm curious. Then, he looks behind me.
"It's her," I hear a voice say.
I turn around. There is an ocelot standing behind me. Wait, did he talk?
Whoa!" I say. "Did that ocelot just talk?"
I hear a crackling noise. The man has bright lines of light at his fingertips- lightning. I'm still not scared. I want to know how he does it.
"It can't be!" Paul screams. "Rachel! RUN!" We both run in the direction behind the man. I see him frown as we leave.
After running for five miles, Paul and I stop. We are in a biome that I read about in my book from Dad. We are in a mushroom biome! There are lots of mooshrooms.
Paul digs a small hole in the ground. He then puts a red mushroom in it and places bone meal on it. Suddenly, it turns into a huge mushroom!
"Quick! Into the mushroom!" he says frantically, digging a tunnel underground to get in. We climb inside, Paul placing the blocks back behind us. He places a torch inside for light and takes a deep breath.
"Finally," he says. We sit down on the floor and eat for a while.
"Paul?" I ask. "Who was that guy? Why did the villagers act so weird? What's with the talking ocelot?"
He stares off into space, then takes a deep breath. "That man was Herobrine." He stops and watches me.
I wince. Herobrine. The name hurts a little, somehow. I have heard the name before somewhere...
"Herobrine isn't really much of a man, though, but he used to be. He was twin brother to Steve. Gosh, they were such best friends. They had each other's backs all the time. Unfortunately, there was an evil king that ruled Minecraftia. He made them work for twelve hours a day, but that isn't even the worst part. He made them work at night, without any weapons at all. Their jobs were to collect water from the local river and refill the royal washing room, which was full of hundreds of cauldrons. They also had to gather wood with their bare hands because endermen kept taking blocks away from the storage room chests. One day, Herobrine couldn't take it anymore. He wanted to get revenge. So, he traveled from place to place, asking for help. They all denied because they were afraid of the king. On a stormy night, Herobrine was sleeping on a mountain. A lightning that carried a glitch hit him accidentally, turning him into a white-eyed monster that could shoot lightning out of his hands and teleport. He went back to his village and decided to take on the king. Steve tried to stop him, he tried to get Herobrine to try and make piece with the king, but he couldn't. Herobrine took down the whole castle with lightning. The king was scared so badly that he promised Steve anything if he could just get Herobrine to leave him alone. So, Steve told Herobrine that the king was dead. Herobrine was happy and stopped. The king kept his promise, and he gave up the throne when Steve asked. After that, Steve made a man called Notch the king of Minecraftia because he was wise, creative, and kind. Steve traveled a lot and was loved by everyone. Notch traveled to another world through a portal, so he couldn't stop what would happen next. Herobrine found out that Steve had lied to him and got furious. He found Steve in the woods one day. They had a big fight. Steve made Herobrine into nothing but deleted code, but he disappeared and nobody has seen him since."
Paul takes a few gulps of water.
"Wow." I say.
"As for the ocelot," he says, "before Herobrine was deleted, he found a sly ocelot and named him Grayson. He didn't even have to tame Grayson because the ocelot was afraid of him at first. He shocked the ocelot with a little bit of the glitching lightning that had shocked him, giving the cat the same powers as himself. But, the ocelot could go from the deleted world to Minecraftia."
We sit in silence as I let it sink in. "So, my enemy is my evil uncle who wants revenge on my dad." I mutter. "Great."
