Chapter Five

Meeting the Queen

Where am I?

My instincts kicked in, and I examined my surroundings before opening my eyes. I was lying on a hard, ruff surface, that was soaking wet. My cloths stuck to my skin uncomfortably. I could hear the sound of moving water in the distance. The stench of rot, grime and dirt filled my nostrils. I was about to open my eyes when a loud, familiar hissing sound echoed though the room.

Two creatures hissed, and cackled at each other like they where talking. I knew they where talking, I just wished I knew what about. Their talking about you, you idiot. I scolded myself

Suddenly the strange chatter stopped and I heard something splash around the room, paddling its way towards me. Water dripped onto me, and even though whatever it was hadn't touched me, I could feel it's had hovering over my arm.

"Oh no you don't!" I exclaimed.

I opened my eyes, and attacked the creature, whipping my leg around, kicking it's own legs, sending it sprawling to the ground. It was another swamp creature. It was slimy, and I noticed it had two legs, and webbed feet. I seemed to be in a cave. In the middle of the circular room, was a pool, full of dark muddy brown water. On the other side of the room, another creature stared in horror at me with it's giant yellow eyes. It backed away from me towards the double doors behind him. I lunged at him, leaping over the pool, and crashing down on top of him. He yelped, and tried to dash away, but was to slow. Pain shocked my cold body, and I could feel scrapes and bruises appear on my flesh. I scrambled to me feet, the creature lay unconscious on the ground. I pushed the double doors open, preparing myself for another attack, but none came. I was then standing in a long empty hallway that looked as if it had been carved out though the rocks. The walls where curved, and had crudely carved out spaces with little candles inside, lighting up the area around it. I put my hand to where my dagger was, breathing a sigh of relief, when I felt it's familiar hilt.

I need to find Jacos and Marco. I thought, as I started making my way down the hallway.

I walked though the hallway until I finally came to a turn. I carefully peeked over to the other side, checking for anyone. Unfortunately, two scaly swamp monsters where walking down right towards me. I quickly pulled my head back, and took a deep breath, pulled my dagger out of it's sheath. I waited until their paddling of feet was only a few feet away. I jumped forward, using my advantage of surprise. I used the hilt of my dagger to smack the first creature on the head, causing him to crumpled to the ground. Before I could even think about attacking the second, a loud ear shattering scream pierced the air coming form it's toothed mouth. Though I longed to, I didn't block my ears. Instead, I swung my dagger at the creatures face, cutting it's cheek, causing deep blue blood to drip from it's jaw. It fell against the ground groaning, clutching it's face. I used the hilt of the dagger once again, smacking it on it's slimy head. I then ran. Ran away from the scene as fast as I could. I knew something would have heard the scream, and would soon be there to see what was wrong.

Those slimy things are fast, I half observed and half cursed.

I sprinted though the hallways, suddenly a loud alarm echoed though the walls. They knew I was gone. I kept running, no longer caring if they found me, I just needed to kind my friends.

"Jacos! Marco! Where are you?!" I shouted.

"Jack!" A voice echoed back.

I stopped cold in my tracks. I turned frantically scanning the area for my two companions.

"Jacos?! Marco?! Where are you?!" I called.

My heart thundered. I felt a hand clutch my shoulder. I swung around, lifting my dagger, to where the attackers face would be. He yelped, and jumped back.

"Marco!" I exclaimed.

I threw my arms around his neck, trying to fight back tears of joy. I had been so afraid Marco had died, that I would never see him again. He had been below the water longer than Jacos and I, and a small, but powerful part of my brain told me he was long gone. Though, I had been pulled under and I was still alive. In fact I wasn't even hurt in any way. I pulled away from Marco.

"Wait, where are we?" I asked. "And where's Jacos?"

Marco smiled. "Come with me. I knew someone who can explain this to you a lot better than I can."

I followed Marco though the winding tunnels, occasionally passing swamp creatures, but Marco didn't seem to notice them. If he did, he wasn't letting on. After about ten minutes we reached a large set of wooden double doors, and Marco led the way inside. The room inside was gigantic. It looked as if it had been chiseled out, like the rest of the rooms, but it was ten times larger. On the sides of the room where rows of pillars, leading up to the end of the room; where a accelerated throne sat. Just as the room I had been, in the center of the room was a large, pool of dark water. In the ceiling was a grand chandler, that seemed to be creating light, sending beams of if all around the room giving off a light bright feeling.

"Ah! You must be Jack!" A cheery voice excitedly spoke.

I spun around, and though I tried to stop it, I gasped. There stood a tall woman, with a wide bright smile. She had a strong face, with sparkling blue eyes, bright red lips and high cheek bones. Her hair was layed down her back, in large thick light green curls, the color of kelp. On her head sat a tall golden crown, encrusted with pearls and emeralds. She wore a lavish dark blue dress, that covered just one shoulder. She also wore a huge brown sash, and dozens of bracelets on her arms. Beside he stood Jacos.

"I am Queen Satery." The woman said, holding out her hand.

(A/N pronounced Sa-tear-ie) I cautiously took it, confortaded by Jacos' presence.

"Now, Jack." The queen continued, "We have much talking to do."
