Immortal

I gaze upon the grand shimmering ocean, in the night.
This big blue beauty is the only thing in sight.
With no expression across my face, I run with all my might.

Calming, crystal-clear water drown my feet, toes turning cold.
The sea is a forbidden place, as I've been told.
But I didn't listen one bit, I am very bold.

Chest submerged in the ocean, I finally spot it.
A pitch-black abyss, a bottomless pit.
I stick one hand inside, just a bit.

I jolt away quick as lightning, screaming in pain.
If doing this hurts me, shouldn't I refrain?
I ignore these feelings, and swim, down the drain.

It is a fact that, "Once in the abyss, never out."
There is no light, just darkness, and echoes as you shout.
The pain immediately turned numb, something changed, no doubt.

Black turned into white, and the exit is sealed by a lock.
I climb out of the water, onto one gigantic dusty rock.
I am confused at first, but I look around, now filled with shock.

I am on the Moon, gazing upon a blue and green sphere.
I turn around, and realize I'm not the only one here.
Voices call out, "It's okay, child. You have nothing to fear."

They are my ancestors, deceased, yet alive, is this rebirth?
One hands me an opaque blue crystal, but what is it worth?
He looks up, staring upon planet Earth.

The gem is the size of my hand, decorated by gold, for show.
It slowly lights up in my palms, illuminating a white glow.
Figures start to appear on the crystal, moving to and fro.

A lion roaring loud and proud in the savanna.
A monkey in a jungle tree, devouring a banana.
A baby being born in a hospital, with a smiling mama.

Seeing those creatures on Earth made me homesick.
The man tells me I can be any living thing, what should I pick?
After choosing my next body, I smash the gem, and that does the trick.
