5.3 The Sad Red Ogre

Shinra saved me from a bad ayakashi. Then he teased me about my panties.

"I was kidding a second ago. You shouldn't have to see me eliminate one of those guys." Shinra explains to me.

(That's true. Even if he's a bad guy, someone getting killed right in front of me...)

"You know, you're actually a really nice guy."

"Wh... what are you talking about. Oni ain't nice." His face is all red and he abruptly turns his back to me.

(Is he blushing? He's an oni, but I can't just hate him.)

"Oh!"

Shinra looks shocked at me. "Sheesh, what's with the shouting all of sudden?"

"I remember!"

"Remember what?" He looks confused.

"The name of the book! The picture book is called 'The Sad Red Ogre'."

"I hate the title." He says.

"It's about an unusual oni who is actually very kind. I would bet anything you'd like it."

He murmurs. "...There's are no kind oni."

(An oni and a picture book about oni... now there's a coincidence. Alright, now that I know the title, I'm going to go find it.)

I start towards the used bookstore, but stop in my tracks.

(I'm scared. What if another ayakashi attacks...? I wish Shinra would come with me...)

I glance over at Shinra.

"What?" He asks.

"Um... I want to go shopping."

"Uh huh." Shinra grins, apparently seeing what I'm getting at. "And?"

"Um..."

He walks right up to me and peers into my face. "What's with you? You want me to do something for you, right? Ask me properly."

(Why does he get so close all the time?)

"...Please come."

"I can't hear you." Shinra teases me.

"Please come shopping with me!"

"Oh, look at that. You can say it after all." He says, then gently nibbles my neck.

"...nnh!"

He grins. "My reward... Alright, let's go. Just be quick about it!"

(He acts really abrupt, but in the end, he's going with me.)

"There are kind oni. Right here." I whisper to myself as I watch Shinra get ahead of me.

A while later...

"They have it?" Shinra asks.

"Nope, not here either..." We've already been in five bookstores.

(This isn't fair to Shinra. Maybe I should give up.)

"Um, maybe it's about time we-"

Before I can finish my sentence, he says. "Next! Come on, next place!"

"But we might never find it."

"You're seriously giving up?" He looks surprised. "Isn't this important to you?"

"Yes..."

"So don't give up." He says strongly.

"Shinra..." Shinra complains all along, but he keeps looking with me.
