5.4 Dango

Shinra and I search for my favorite picture book, but we couldn't find it yet. We stop by a deserted used bookstore.

"What a dump." Shinra says loudly.

"They can hear you. It's places like this where you find the treasures." I carefully paw through the dim store. Then, in the dust covered picture book section, I spot the book I've been looking for. "It's here! Shinra, it's here!"

"You finally found it, huh? Took you long enough." He nags.

"Thank you so much!" I'm so happy that I hug him without thinking.

He blushes bright red. "Argh! What are you doing?!"

"Oh, sorry. It was an accident..."

"Right... An accident..." Even his ears are red.

(He's the one who's always trying to pull something. I guess he doesn't like being caught off guard?)

A little bit later...

We're on our way back home after buying the book. Suddenly Shinra comes to a halt. "I smell something..."

"What?!"

(Not another attack?!)

"This way!" He quickly takes my hand and starts running. When we arrive...

"A dango shop?"

Shinra beams at me. "This place smells good."

The mochi is fresh off the grill and smells amazing.

(He did take the time to go shopping with me.)

I buy dango for Shinra as a thank you and hand them to him. "Here you are."

"Really?" He looks surprised.

"Sure. To thank you for today."

He says disappointed. "I save your life and you give me one lously stick of dango?"

"If you don't want it, I'll eat it."

"I didn't say that... Fine, I'll take it." He takes the dango from me and devours it a split second.

(Geez, he's fast!)

He murmurs. "That's isn't enough."

"So you like dango?"

"Momotaro gave out kibi dango, so I thought I would give it a try." Shinra looks happy.

"Hehe."

(So he's a dango fan. Maybe I'll try making some as a thank you.)

I picture Shinra with full cheeks as he chomps on the dango and somehow, that image makes me happy.
