Friendzoned

Chapter 1

Ryder

            I jumped off the couch and ran to the door when I heard a vicious banging. I heard my mother calling from behind me asking me who it was. When I opened the door, there was a tall woman staring back at me. I didn’t know who she was, so I introduced myself.

“Hi! I’m Ryder! And I’m five years old! Who are you?”

“Hi. Is your mother home?” The lady asked panicked.

“Hello there, I’m Mrs. Young. Can I help you with something?” my mom said while walking up to the door.

“Yes. I’m Mrs. Zecker from next door. My Son just passed out and the ambulance is on the way. We need to go to the hospital, but I can’t leave my daughter at home all by herself. She’s only five and I don’t want her to get worried. I was wondering if you could watch her tonight?” the lady spit out as fast as she could.

“Oh my goodness!! Is he alright? Sure, she can come stay over here. My son is the same age! I’m sure they could get along!”  My mom explained.

“Thanks so much! I owe you one!” Then the lady sprinted down the sidewalk and next door. She came back 5 minutes later with a little girl. She looked like she was my age. Once again, I introduced myself.

“Hi! I’m Ryder! And I’m five years old!” The little girl smiled at me and walked inside.

“Thanks again!” Her mom shouted while running to the car. Just then I turned around to see the little girl tugging on my mom’s pant leg. She handed her a piece of paper. My mom replied with a hug and a thank you and asked if she wanted any snacks. The girl smiled and nodded. My mom walked into the kitchen and opened up the fridge.

“What’s your name?” I asked all interested.

“Rae” she shyly replied. I asked her to play a game with me and we played and ate snacks until bed time. Once I was changed into my pajamas, my mom came into my room and told me she put Rae to bed and told me what was happening with her brother. Then she tucked me into bed and kissed me goodnight.
