Chapter 12

Rae

Ryder gives the best hugs. We decided to go back to the gym before we got in trouble for being out here. When we got back, a slow dance song came on. Back to the bleachers!

“Hey Rae, will you dance with me? Just as friends of course.” He asked politely.

“Sure. But I have got to warn you, I am not a good dancer!” I admitted.

“Oh come on, you don’t have to be a good dancer to slow dance. You just have to sway to the beat. It’s easy.” He insisted. He pulled me into the middle of the gym and put his arms around my waist. We danced together for two songs. He was right! This is easy. I just followed his lead for most of it. He seemed to know what he was doing. After we were done dancing, he went back to his friends and I went back to my seat. I caught him looking over at me a couple different times. I really hope he was being serious when he said that he wants to be friends again. I don’t think I can lose him twice.

Ryder and I haven’t hung out much since the dance because school has been really hectic since we only have a few days left. All of the teachers are trying to shove in last minute assignments and projects. I just can’t wait for the last day of school because it’s only a half day. The whole eighth grade class will be going over to this girl Stacy’s house for a pool party and a barbeque. Later that night when it gets dark, there will be a bonfire going on as well.

The final bell just rang reminding everyone that it is now officially summer! The end of the year party doesn’t actually start for another hour and a half, so I am going home first to get my swimsuit and towel.

“Are you coming to the end of the year party?” one girl asked me.

“Yes I am! I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Are you?” I asked. She smiled.

“Of course!” she replied. I walked outside and got in my mom’s car. She asked me how my day was and asked me what we did. After I told her, she turned on the music and just sang along. I am soo happy it’s finally summer! I went home and changed into my swimming suit. After I put my clothes over it I told my mom I was ready to go. The house was huge! I went around to the back like everyone else and opened the fence. The pool was so big. There was a hot tub and a stereo with a DJ. This party looked amazing. My friend Lexi called me over.

“Hey girl! About time you showed up.” She said

 “Sorry we got lost on the way here.” I explained.

“OMG! Did you guys hear?” This girl Megan said running up to us. We both shook our heads. “That chick Samantha is pregnant! I don’t know if it’s for sure but that is what everyone is talking about.” She said out of breath.

“No way! Who’s the dad?” Lexi asked.

“Some random dude from another school I guess. Nobody would go out with her here.” Megan said. 
            “Man that is jacked up! She isn’t even in high school yet.” Lexi said while taking a sip of her drink. Just then I saw Samantha walking in from the gate.

“There she is! There she is!” Megan said pointing. “And look you can see her baby bump!”

“No I think that’s just a fat bump she has always had that.” Lexi said

“Hey guys!” Samantha said walking up to us. We all said hey back.

“Barf in my mouth! Look at Ryder and Brittany over there.”  Samantha said. What the crap! She was just asking me to get him to ask her out a few days ago! I looked at them. She was right. Barf in my mouth. Brittany was all over him. Gross! I saw a bunch of boys and girls getting in the pool, I guess the basketball game was starting. I just sat the first one out because the girls and boys who actually play basketball were playing. I walked over to the food table and got a plate. I was looking down at all the food when there was a hand on my waist.
