Chapter 13

The Haywires have been treating us nicely. They almost feel like close family now. Nia, Wrench, Jet and I have been camping out with them for about a week now and nothing has gone wrong yet. I managed to fix all their Upgrade problems leaving them all grateful.

Things started to head to trouble when I was sitting at dinner. The fire warmed me up as I held the bowl of soup Poppy made me. I felt the metal around my right eye get warm, so I back up a bit when Nia walked over and sat down. "How's it going" I asked. She shrugged. "I just stressed out that's all."

"Uh oh. That's not good. Your meters are probably going bonkers now" I teased. She smiled and nudged my arm. "Its getting out of here. We just can't leave Rad. Look at all these people. Their innocent and yet their trapped here. We have to help."

Even though I knew it was risky, I had to agree with Nia. These people have been so kind to us, we had to help them. I nodded my head and leaned forward. "But how?"

Nia shrugged. "Guess we just need a little more time to think." I sighed when Nia said, "so, how's your eye?"

I looked up at her and shrugged. "Getting the hang of it, I think." Nia smiled and said, "I'm sorry, Rad. This is all my fault! If I had been more careful about keeping my identity a secret this would have never happened."

"Nia, stop. This is not your fault. Please don't blame yourself" I snapped. She just looked at the ground in shame.

I sighed and put my hand on her shoulder and said, "I promise we're going to save everyone and leave here together." She looked up and smiled. "Thanks for the encouragement." I grinned and stood up. "Anytime time."

Jet walked over to us with his shoulder bandaged up from the gun shot he got. "Feeling better" I asked. He nodded and said, "how' bout you?"

I nodded. "Just peachy." He laughed and patted me on the back as Wrench's barking got louder and louder.

Susie laughed while chasing Wrench around the campsite behind the Supreme Rank Building. They whirled past us causing me to smile. I whistled, making Wrench run towards me.

As I bent down, he started jumping and licking my face. I laughed and said, "alright, alright. You love me. I get it." Wrench pounced on my chest, sending me down. I laughed as he licked my face when Susie ran over to me and giggled.

She bent down and started tickling my sides. "Hey! Hey!" I laughed. She giggled as I rolled around on the ground.

Nia smiled and walked away from me. The air was cool due to the Supreme Rank Buildings shadow. Nia slowly strolled away from us, thinking of a plan. This seemed like an impossible game to win to Nia. Just then she stopped as an idea struck her. It was so obvious! Nia thought.

Just before she could turn around three guards jumped out from behind some crates and grabbed Nia. She screamed and squirmed around trying to break free. "Rad!"

The Boss walked out from the shadows when Nia shrieked, "Rad! Help!" I heard my name and stood up to see Nia being dragged away.

I gasped and ran toward her a helicopter hovered over us. A rope latter unraveled as The Boss grabbed onto it.

A guard pulled out a taser and shocked Nia, causing her to short circuit out. Her body slumped as The Boss grabbed her and took her into the helicopter.

I cursed and screamed, "Nia!" The helicopter with Nia, the guards and The Boss was gone before I could reach it.

I stopped and glared at the sky, watching the helicopter disappear. "Nia!" I cried.

I didn't know what to do. She was in the hands of that whack job now. He could do anything to her. No, I told myself. I can't think like that.

I had to save everyone, even Nia. I promised her. And she knows me good enough to know I do not break a promise.
