Chapter 5

I dreamed about the day I brought Nia into this world. She was so curious about everything and asked simple questions. It was cute. I had just introduced myself, Wrench and told her, her name. "R-Rad. W-Wrench. N-Nia" she tried to say.

I smiled down at her and helped her sit up. "Lets get you some clothes."

I grabbed a old shirt of mine and some ripped shorts then helped her change. As I pulled her hair back she examined her hands. "Okay. Lets try to get you walking."

She gazed at me as if I were crazy. I grabbed her metal hands and helped her off the work table. As she stepped onto the ground her knees buckled and she tumbled over. I caught her and groaned. "I never thought you were going to be this heavy!"

Carefully I helped her stand up straight.

"I'm scared" she quivered.

"It's fine. I won't let you fall" I smiled.

I held onto her hands tightly and watched her take her first steps. "That's it! Your doing it!" I cheered.

Nia giggled and released my hands.

"Wow. I'm so proud of you" I beamed.

Nia laughed as she walked in circles with her hands extended in front of her. "This is cool, Rad!"

I smiled at her. "I just can't believe you work. Three years of hard effort finally pays off."

"What do you mean I work?" She said tilting her head.

My smiled turned into a frown. "Nia, your exactly like me or others. Your well um... a robot."

"A robot" she said softly.

"Yes. You work different than other people. But your special! Don't think your weird or anything. Your not! Your very very special and unique. You can do stuff others can't" I explained. "But no one can know your special or else they'll take you away. I don't want to lose you."

"What happens when they take me away" she asked.

My expression darkened. "They'll destroy you. They'll take you and destroy you and use you for evil. Horrible evil."

"Am I evil" she question.

I stumbled forward. "No! No. You have the wrong idea! Your very good. Your not close to evil!" She nodded. "Are you evil?"

I paused for a second and shook my head. "No. I don't think so. I'm a very kind person. Just ask Wrench" I said lifting him up.

He groaned and barked at me.

I dropped him and frowned. "Maybe your evil!"

He yawned and fell back asleep.

"Fine! But when your hungry you can find someone else to feed you" I sighed.

Nia giggled and patted Wrench on the head. He smiled and licked her on the face.

I shot my dog an evil look than sighed. "Well I'm good and thats that."

Nia nodded and stood up straight.

I walked around her examining her every details. "So do you feel fine. Is there anything that feels broken or jammed up?"

"Um... No I feel fine" she answered.

"I can't believe I built and actual human android" I muttered under my breath. "She's incredible and she functions smoothly."

I was still a little in shock that she could walk and talk and well... work.

Just then a voice started to echo in my head.

"Rad" It said. "Rad!"

I woke up with a jump. Nia sat above me smiling.

"Morning!" She greeted.

I sat up and brushed the bits of hay off my shirt.

"Good morning" I replied.

"How'd you sleep" Nia said sitting next to me.

"Fine. You?" I asked.

"Good. I think I have a loose wire in my neck though" Nia said tilting her head.

"Let me take a look" I said pulling out a screwdriver from Nia's bag.

Carefully I took off the metal plate to the back of her neck and glanced in. A web of wires and gears made its way through her neck down to her shoulder.

"I see the problem" I said sticking my hand in. "Just hold still-."

Nia squeaked and jumped up.

"Sorry" I smiled. "Wrong wire."

I peered in and grabbed a red wire and hooked it into a little metal box.

"There" I said screwing the metal plate back onto her neck.

"Thanks" she sighed in comfort.

Just then Jet walked into the barn with a handful of food. "Broke into my uncles house and grabbed us some grub. Who knows how old this junk is. Oh well. It's better than nothin."

He chucked a loaf of bread at my face then sat next to me and took a bite into an apple.

Nia took out a motor oil can and drank in in one gulp.

I just sat the quietly, fidgeting the bread in my hands.

"So you got a plan" Jet said with a mouth full of food.

"Yeah, actually. I was thinking about it last night" I replied. "We should go to the Supreme Rank and... negotiate with them. Ether that or hack into the computers and see what they really want." Jet nodded in agreement. "Hacking. I love hacking into stuff. It's fun."

I rolled my eyes and took a bite from the bread and scowled. It tasted horrible. And I was pretty sure that was mold on it.

I turned to Nia who picked up Wrench and feed him a dog treat. "You okay with the plan?"

She nodded.

I smiled and stood up. "Well then. I guess it's time to leave."

"Leave where? There's no other place I know where we can stay" Jet replied.

I smiled and turned to Nia and Jet. There gaze poured into mine as I said the four worst words I could possibly think of.

"To my brothers house."
