Chapter 20

I pulled into my driveway, and looked at the time on my phone seeing it was 5, meaning I had to be at work in an hour. I sighed in frustration for I would have to see Jason. I walked into the house when my phone started ringing. I answered it, not caring to check caller ID.

"Hello?" I tried to sound happy, but failed miserably. 

"Rae?" I heard Jason's voice, and frowned. 

"If this isn't about work, I'm hanging up." I spat not wanting to deal with him ever again.

"I was calling to ask when you were going to get your car." I opened the door and threw the keys on the couch.

 "Whenever I can afford to the get the tires replaced. You know the ones your boss popped?" I reminded him with bitterness dripping off my tongue. 

He sighed, "I'm sorry about that and the whole incident, but the wheels have already been replaced. I thought you already got it fixed."

 My eyes widened in confusion, "Oh- right I forgot." I lied. Who in the hell would have done that for me?

My train of thought got interrupted when I heard his voice on the other line again, "Okay. Are you still coming in at 6?" 

I nodded before remembering he couldn't see me, "Yup."

 "Okay. I hope we can talk about what happ," 

I growled in disapproval, "Bye Jason." I hung up angrily, and walked to the kitchen to grab something to eat. I quickly went to my room to change for work. I switched out my hoodie for a dark green long sleeve shirt, and a pair of dark skinny jeans. I unbraided my hair, and it flowed out in beautiful curls.

Heading back downstairs to the kitchen my mind wandered off to Jason. If he thinks I'm ever going to forgive him he's a complete idiot. He honestly thinks I'll believe he had no part in the whole Xavier thing? He was probably the asshole that popped my tires.

"Rae, you work today hun?" Nani asked while adjusting her red dress. 

I nodded while biting into an apple, "I'm closing. Why?" I raised an eyebrow questioning her, while she shot me a smile.

 "Me and Tony are going to a party to celebrate the company's success. We wanted you to come with." 

I pretended to pout sadly, "Aw man. Sucks to miss out." 

She laughed, "I wish I had to work too." We started laughing, when my dad came downstairs fumbling with his tie.

"Who created these things, and where can I find the asshole?" My dad mumbled in frustration. I giggled, as Nani rushed over to help him but not before patting him lightly on the cheek. 

"Language, Tony." He chuckled, and I smiled as he kissed her after she fixed his tie.

"As much as I hate to miss out on the party," Nani raised her eyebrows at my sarcasm, "I have to get to work. I'll see you guys later tonight." I kissed my dad on the cheek, and gave Nani a side hug before grabbing the keys off the couch and heading to Tasty.

I arrived and headed to the kitchen, "Hey Tim! Where's Maddie?" I swiped my card clocking in, and he smiled at me.

 "Hey Raelynn. She's running late, but Jason said you'll be working in the front today." 

I nodded and grabbed an apron tying it up, "Okay, thanks!" I grabbed a notepad, and headed to the front of the diner.

I walked up to a table looking down at the notepad ready to write, "Hello, I'm Raelynn, I'll be your server. How are you guys feeling today?"

 I froze when a very familiar voice spoke up, "We're very excited." His voice dripping with sarcasm. 

I looked up at and met his eyes, "Uh-hi, so uh- today's special is rattlesnake bites with our famous meat lovers steak with a side of fried pickles for $10.99." I smiled after I got the sentence out.

Seated at the table was Harry, and 3 other people I didn't know. I took the first two orders with ease and looked at the girl to speak up. 

She glared at me up and down before scoffing, "I'll take a salad with an ice water." I frowned at the attitude she threw at me, and put on a fake smile. 

"With lettuce or without?" I joked, and she stared at me with disgust. 

Before she could respond Harry spoke up, "I'll take the special with a coke." I wrote it down, and tried to ignore him staring at me.

"I'll be back with your drinks shortly." I smiled sweetly, and walked over to the counter where I hung up their order. 

"Problem?" I heard Maddie's voice as she reached up and grabbed 3 orders. 

"Ugh, I know him. Plus the girl in pink is a bitch." 

She laughed, "Good luck with that." I mocked her fake smile before letting a giggle leave my lips.

 I got their drinks, and took a peek back at the table where Harry was already staring at me. I swallowed nervously, and noticed the girl in pink was trying to get his attention. He looked at me and raised his hand mocking her. His actions caught me off guard and I busted out laughing, to which he smiled showing all his teeth.

"Seems to not be such a problem after all." Maddie smiled obviously noticing the exchange between us. I shook my head lightly, and grabbed a plate to put their drinks on as I walked them over to them. Maybe not.
