I stood there puzzled on what just happened. My eyes flashed towards Harry, who looked bored with the situation. Before I could speak, his beautiful plump lips that were just attached to mine seconds ago, began to move.
"As much as I'd love to give you more proof that Raelynn would indeed go for me-" He paused to glance at me smirking and shot me a wink, "I have things to do." With that, he simply walked out of the diner leaving me to deal with Jason alone. Damn him.
I refused to meet his eyes, as I stared down at my boots nervously. "I thought you were better than that, Rae." Jason's judgmental tone was hard to miss, as he spat the words out in hurt and anger. I looked up at him quickly, offended by his choice of words.
"And what do you mean by that, Jason?"
"I just thought you had standards." I flinched inwardly, before rolling my eyes at his dramatics. I walked around him to grab a cleaning rag, to tidy up the table Harry and I were sitting at moments before. I snorted as I passed by Jason, nudging his shoulder a bit.
"Obviously, I don't-," I paused looking at him over my shoulder with a small innocent smile, "I dated you, didn't I?" His eyes flashed with anger, as I clearly attacked his pride. I don't know what happened to him, but he was a total jackass today. I suddenly found myself missing his sweet and friendly demeanor. Swatting those feelings away after recalling the Xavier incident, I threw the now dirty rag in a bucket, and grabbed the keys off of the counter.
I reached the door, before turning to look back at Jason, who was still standing there disbelief written across his face. "Are you going to lock up, or are you going to get out so I can?" I knew I should have chose better words, saying how he could easily fire me, but I was full of twisted emotions. How did Harry think that him kissing me like that was a good idea? And why did I let him? Why did I want more? I quickly stopped thinking about the kiss, and looked up at Jason with an irritated glare.
His face softened momentarily, before he shook his head in disappointment as he walked over to me slowly, "I wish you wouldn't have got involved with him, Rae." He surprised me as he leaned in and planted a soft kiss on my cheek. I felt his breath tickle my ear, as his lips lingered there, "Now, I can't protect you." His words made me shiver, as he slid his hand down my arm to my hands where the keys rested. He gripped them in his hand, before ushering me out the door.
I stood outside of Tasty's, staring at Jason who looked about me with a serious expression on his face as he locked the doors. What did he mean, he can't protect me anymore? It's not like he did a hell of a good job before. Why does it seem like something bad is going to happen.. Really, really soon.
As I slid into the car, I swallowed the nervous lump that had formed in my throat, before turning on the ignition. I quickly drove home, ignoring the speed limit, and rushed into the house. I walked towards the dining room, where laughter was being heard and the clinking of wine glasses.
I seen my father and Nani, sitting at the dinner table laughing with a beautiful, woman with striking red hair framing her perfectly shaped face. Her lips, which were bright red covered with lipstick, pulled back in a knowing smile and her green eyes glittered upon seeing me. Her actions made me uneasy, as I stared at my father for an introduction.
However, the voice that spoke up was not his, "And this, must be the daring woman I have heard so much about tonight." The red haired woman smiled even wider, as she arose from her seat to approach me. Every step closer to took towards me made me want to turn and run. She gave me the same feeling Xavier did, and this terrified me.
"My name is Ezra. Ezra Mitchell." The corner of her mouth tilted up into a familiar smirk, as she spoke her last name, knowing I would catch on to her. I stared at her unable to speak, as fear swam through my veins. My hands began to sweat, as she tilted her head at me. Her sly smile hidden from the unknowing couple, who sat behind her peering at me.
"Are you okay, Raelynn?" When she spoke my name, I snapped out of my trance as I felt her arms wrap around me in a quick tight hug. I felt like I was a weak mouse, and she was a fierce snake. She released me slowly, before staring at me with those malicious eyes again. Suddenly, loud footsteps were heard making their way down the stairs and my heart began to beat wildly.
"Ah, princess this one of our neighbors. She stopped by and we invited her to join for dinner, and this-" he paused, awaiting the figure to come from around the corner, and when they did my heart dropped to my stomach.
An audible gasp escaped my lips, as I stared at the man, who had introduced me to something deeper than fear. His eyes flashed with a glint of humor, at my reaction. My eyes burned as I wanted to crawl into a corner, and cry. This man now knows where I live. This monster has met my father and Nani. This monster can hurt me-- can hurt us.
"This is her husband, Xavier." My father finished smiling, obviously happy he has made a new friend, oblivious to the danger he has welcomed into our home. My eyes widened as Xavier walked towards me sticking out his hand politely.
"Nice to finally meet you, Raelynn." I didn't move. I continued to stare at him in shock, until I heard my father cough obviously embarrassed by my actions tonight. I stared down at Xavier's hand that was still stretched out to me, before I slowly raised mine to shake it.
Something evil danced around in his eyes, as his grip tightened on my hand and a tinge of pain sparked. I tried to pull it back, but he just raised our hands up and down to make it appear as if we were still shaking hands. He released my hand after one tough squeeze, and stepped back as Ezra latched on to his arm. They stared at me intently, their eyes both screaming danger as a matching smirk appeared on both of their faces.
"You have such a lovely home."
