A Few Moments Before:
"Nice going, Berlitz," you say, scratching the canine behind his ears. "Thanks for helping me out on this one."
Berlitz brought his head closer as you continue to scratch him.
"What a good boy," you coo. Berlitz's tail begins to wag before it suddenly goes stiff.
The dog gave a quick bark of warning. You turn easily, arms coming up to block the swinging branch. You deflect the heavy piece of wood towards the ground as you're careful not to let the force be enough to break anything.
"I doubt the dog will help you out of this, though," the man before you sneers.
You grin at him as your fingers curl around the man's makeshift club as you use it to twist his arms. A flicker of surprise crosses the male's expression as he likely didn't expect you to be this strong.
A sketch of the man in front of you imprints on your mind. Brown hair. Brown eyes. Thick clothes for winter. Lots of pockets in said clothing.
"You killed my friend," the male ground out.
"It was suicide," you sneer back. You drop to the ground, the branch swinging above you. Fingers flat against the hard dirt, you use your upper body to swing your legs into the man's knee. He staggers out of the way.
You leap back and easily land on your feet. Fists up. Jaw set. You throw your first punch forward with ferocity. The man blocks. With an open palm, you twist your arm around his as you throw yourself up into the air and land a kick to the side of his head. He goes staggering back.
"Alice said you were a good fighter."
Your body tightens as you shift out of range. He grins at you. You shrug it off as you launch yourself forward again, foot already coming towards his legs. He brings down the club towards your leg. You turn, foot digging into the soggy foliage as you roll out of the way. Wet leaves stick to the back of your jacket (Ludwig's jacket to be specific) as you scramble through the underbrush as you looped around him.
The man gives the bat a threatening spin as he follows your movements.
You couldn't run now or you wouldn't be able to catch the man again.
How far were you from the lake? Should you call for help?
The boot twists through the soggy mud as you lunge forward. You grab at the man's makeshift club. You twist. It snaps free from the man's wrist.
You give it a threatening spin in return. The club pushes into the ground as you lean on it cockily. "So...Do I actually have to beat the shit out of you now or are you going to go cliché on me and spill the beans?"
He doesn't respond as he reaches behind his back. You swing the club, not comfortable with that movement.
There's the flash of metal. Then there's the gunshot.
The club splinters in your hands.
"Holy shit!" you yell. You drop the splintered branch with a jolt as you jump back using a nearby tree as a shield.
"Y/n?!" you hear Ludwig yell. "Are you okay?!"
You grin as you duck back into the shelter of the young tree, already climbing up the low hanging branches.
