To your surprise, your boss doesn't flip shit when you explain the situation to him. To your horror, Kamiel actually thought it'd be a great idea if you went and talked to Ludwig's boss again.
Apparently, the three of you were going to be staying for the entire week anyway, because Kamiel liked the fact that Germany wasn't just going to step on [Country Name] like a bug. Hashtag great ideas from Kamiel. Hashtag let's shoot him.
You were mildly joking.
You think of the gun tucked into the back of your pants and wonder if you could refrain from blowing the bastard's brains. But then you'd ruin, like, one of the only suits you had left. But, then again, everyone would know you were the one who had done it...
You blink. You shouldn't be thinking like that.
Gilbert is suddenly at your side. "You should stop acting like you have a gun hidden down your butt and thank me for saving you like the awesome person I am."
Gilbert grabs your shoulder and starts pushing you away from their boss' room. You blink. "Huh?"
Gilbert rolls his eyes. "West and I both know you're going to try and shoot him, so we got you out of it. Now, let's go towards the garden and enjoy the pouring rain."
You blink again before you face heats up. What did he just say about your butt? "Gilbert," you say, your voice dripping with sarcasm. "Did you just tell me I can totally disrespect my boss and just do whatever the hell I want?"
"Exactly," Gilbert replies with a cheer. "We'll head out to the garden and you'll purge yourself of your urges."
"Which means I can purge this world of the scum currently sitting in an office a few halls down, right?" you ask innocently.
Gilbert gives you one of those looks. You know, the one where someone just looks at you like you're completely nuts and you most likely are.
Gilbert shoves you through the glass double doors into the garden beyond. The earthy scent swamps you. The rain wasn't as bad as yesterday, but it was still there. An ever pressing beat to this monotonous melody because no matter what happened decisions were already forged in blood and could not be changed.
Well, wasn't that deep.
You turn towards Gilbert who hands you a poncho and a pair of rain boots. You put it on, bringing the bright yellow hood over your h/c hair. Gilbert tosses his shoes and your shoes against the glass door. Your boots squelch in the mud as you walk forward onto the well-trimmed grass.
The bare rose bushes remind you that it is still winter. You wonder what this place would look like in full bloom. Wait, you already know what it looks like.
This was a safe haven. Next to the forest, this place was also familiar to you like a second skin. You cast a look over your shoulder at Gilbert who is silently watching you. "Is the maze still there?"
Gilbert split a grin. "Yeah." He steps in front of you, making a motion for you to follow him. His boots splash up the muddy pools of water, you follow quickly behind with the comfort of knowing that your suit was protected and you could move easily without those dress shoes.
Gilbert rounds a corner his hand suddenly in yours as he pulls you faster. You bite down on your smile as you speed up, easily passing the man who was not as fit as his younger brother. Now you're the one pulling him, leading him to where you last remembered the maze to be.
