I separated the short story into two parts.

Enjoy! :)

Summary

Avery, a high school senior spends his time working and hanging out with his friends. He is taken by surprise when those friends tell him that they want to be more than friends. He doesn't want to give them false hope, but any attempt to not lead them on seems to fuel their persistence. He wonders how he is going to be able to handle them both or if he will end up putting his foot down and cutting them out of his life.

The First One

"I can't believe you did that." I state.

"I'm following your lead." Jack states, my younger brother.

"I would never do that."

"Yes, you would. I had to take a chance."

"But I would never make such a raucous; you're lucky they didn't suspend you."

"Everyone loves me." Jack says confidently.

"You're lucky you are a charmer."

"Tell Adan that."

"Oh, I think you might have won him over."

"I hope so. I'm running out of ideas."

"If his blushing, his response, doesn't give it away I don't know what does." I reply.

"So do you think he'll go out with me now?"

"You know I think he only said no because you're younger than him."

"But I'm mature."

"That's up for debate."

"I go for what I want."

"Putting people on the spot."

"I am showing him how much I love him."

"Love him?" I ask.

"Yes." Jack responds seriously. "I want him to give me a chance."

"Maybe when you're older."

"I don't want to wait or to give anyone else the chance to snatch him off."

I smile. Is it because of the age; Adan is eighteen and Jack is sixteen. "Talk to him." I suggest not knowing if Adan will give him the opportunity to do so. He is always making sure they are never alone.

"Neil, is something wrong?" I ask wondering what has him thinking; even though he's paying attention to what I'm saying there is something in Neil's mind.

"You're a good friend." Neil states.

"Thank you."

"You're so easy to talk to, you're kind and caring, you always make sure everyone is doing alright, you're down to earth."

I stare at him. What is he getting at?

"Avery." He says stopping making me stop. He takes my hands in his.

"I care for you."

He said, what?

"I love you."

He knows I'm not looking for a relationship. I don't see him in that way. "I--"

"Would you be my boyfriend?"
