Soulmates

First one-shot of 2017 :), hope you enjoy it!

"I've seen him before." He whispers to himself. Before meeting him here. There is something too familiar about him.

"Where did you say you were from?" He asks.

"I didn't." He smiles.

"Well, where are you from?" He asks. "And what is your name? We keep meeting, but I still have yet to learn your name."

"I could say the same thing." He replies. "My name is Daniel." He arches a brow at him.

He smiles. "Mine is Manuel and I was born and raised here."

"Have you ever thought of leaving?"

"No, there has always been something that has tied me here. It's hard to explain."

Daniel nods. "There was something that drew me here. I wanted to start anew in new city and I found myself stopping here. I've been here since we first met."

"Did you find what you were looking for?"

"Maybe." Daniel replies meeting Manuel's eyes.

"My grandmother always said this town pulled people in."

"Did she grow up here?"

Manuel nods. "My grandfather didn't nor my mother. She likes to refer to this town as a place where people found what they didn't know they were missing."

"What did they find?"

"Their soulmates."

"You believe in soulmates."

Manuel nods. "I believe everyone is perfect for someone else."

"How do you know if someone is?"

"You just do." Manuel smiles. "That is what my family tells me. When they met their husband, wife, or partner, they knew it was the person they wanted to spend their future with."

"Have you found yours?" Daniel asks. Is that what this is? He shakes his head. I've never believed.

Should I tell him? "Do you believe in soulmates?"

"I think I believe it for other people, but not for me."

"Why?"

I haven't seen many successful marriages in my family...I've seen none. Daniel shrugs.

"You will. Someone is perfect for you." You are perfect. You have to believe it.

Daniel responds with a smile, "What makes you say that?"

"I know things." My grandmother.

"What other things do you know?" Daniel asks.

"How you got here." He responds cheekily.

"That is not what I meant."

"You weren't clear."

Daniel chuckles. "You are something Manuel."

Manuel replies with a smile.

"She wants to see you." Manuel tells Daniel. "You don't have to if you don't want to meet her."

"How does she know about me?" Daniel asks.

"I told her I met you. As you know we're close. She is the only family I have left."
