I haven't uploaded/written in too long...here's one based on the following writing prompt: At birth, everyone has the date they will die tattooed on their arm. You were supposed to die yesterday.

He places his watch on the table. He looks at the clock. It's 11:58pm. Two more minutes. He takes a deep breath.

He whispers. "How is it possible?" Maybe, I'm just dreaming.

The sound of a mug shattering brings his attention to his doorway. "You're alive." His sister states.

"It's not a dream?" He asks.

"I was coming to get everything in order like you told me." She whispers.

That's right. I didn't want her to be present. He had seen what it did to her when she witnessed their mother's death. He doesn't understand how evolution can be so cruel.

She rushes to his side. "But, it said you were supposed to...yesterday." She stutters as she turns his arm over. "It's still there, but...:"

"What?" He asks taking a look.

"Does it seem like it's fading?"

"It was darker yesterday."

"What does it mean?"

"I--"

"We have to keep this a secret. No one can find out. Everyone knew."

"Why?" Reyes asks. What's happening?

"Because I can't have you snatched away from me. Imagine what might happen if people were to find out."

"What about dad?"

"He's supposed to be here--"

"Crystal, where are you?"

"He is here." She tightens her hold on him. "Let me prepare him."

He nods. I should get dressed. I am going to have to stay hidden. Could there be others like me? Why is it happening to me?

"So it's true." Their father says rising from Reyes' bed. "I wanted to believe it, but I didn't want to have false hope. It would mean knowing who it was."

"What are you talking about?" Crystal asks.

"I have to tell you both a secret your mother and I kept."

"What is it dad?" Crystal asks.

"We were told this would happen...your grandmother--she used to have visions--she told us it would happen to the one who was destined to find his true soulmate every time. They would be the force the world needed. I hoped she was wrong because it would mean a great burden for one of my children."

"Why would it be a burden?" Crystal asks.

"Soulmate?" Reyes asks.

"The concept is from long ago--a true soulmate and reincarnation--the one destined for one during all their lifetimes even for a brief time. Your grandmother didn't elaborate on how they would be the force the world needed."

"How is he supposed to know?" Crystal asks.

"She told us the date would signify the date before he would meet his soulmate and not his death."

"But he needs to stay hidden. Others knew it was supposed to be today."

It's gone. "It's gone."

"Let me see." Crystal states.

"I know your fear, but that's what your grandmother told us and I'm inclined to believe everything now. He can't stay hidden."
