Below is the writing prompt that inspired this short one. I somewhat followed it.

Writing Prompt: You may remove one memory of your choosing and it will never come back. However, that memory shall then be planted in the mind of a newborn child and, no matter how hard they try, they will never be able to forget it for as long as they live. Now choose.

"Who is he?" She asks.

"I don't know." He replies.

"You're a great artist."

"Thank you mom."

***

"You still draw him." His mom states.

He shrugs. I keep seeing him.

"His eyes are different this time."

He nods.

"I wonder if he could be real. It might not be healthy to keep painting him."

"It's once in awhile." He whispers. He sees his mom glance at him. "Don't worry about it."

"You're my son."

"It's just a painting."

She nods unconvinced.

He looks like him, but it's not him. He thinks as he looks down at him. A smile spreads across his face as the baby opens his eyes. "Hello Eddie."

"He is ours." Liliana states.

"He is." He replies.

"He has your brown eyes." She states.

"He has your blonde hair." He replies. He leans over to give her a kiss. "Thank you."

She smiles.

"Sleep."

She nods. She closes her eyes and soon she is asleep.

He turns to his son. "You resemble him." He whispers.

"He could be someone from your past." He states.

"I've never seen him before."

"From a past life." He clarifies.

"I don't believe in that."

"You're here."

"My friend brought me."

"But you entered willingly. You believe."

"I want to know why I keep dreaming about a stranger. I've always seen his face for as long as I can remember in dreams."

"This won't work unless you believe.".

"But I don't."

"Then, I can't help you. I can't make you believe."

"Alex." She places her hand on his arm.

"Sorry, I can't do this." He replies.

"If you ever change your mind, you know where to come." He states.

"Alex, how do you want to find out why you keep seeing him?" She asks. "You've had the dreams more lately."

"I don't know, but I can't accept that he could be from a past life."

"Why do you refuse to believe it for this when you believe in supernatural forces?"

"Because this involves me directly."

"You paint him. Don't you want to get any answers if possible? You've never seen him, but he is part of your life, our life. He has a hold on you. You feel like he is important to you, but you can't explain it, so why can't you believe in past lives?"

It's a scary thought. "I feel like I won't like the explanation."

"But it might give you a piece of mind."

"Okay."

She smiles.

"He is a memory. It's not yours."

"How is that possible?"

"It's rare, but it has happened. You were involved in an accident when you were a child right?"

How does he know? "Yes."

"You were injured badly."

"Yes."

"That's when a transfer in memory could have happened."

"How?"

"Depends on the person."

"How can I get rid of it?"

"There is not a way. It was given."

"Why do I keep dreaming about it if it's a memory?"

"It was important to the person."

"I need to get rid of it. Why would he get rid of him?"

"There is no way. Because he was important to him."

"How is that even possible?"

"That is the way of life. It's never easy. He couldn't handle the pain of losing him."

"He was his husband?" He asks seeing his expression.

He nods.

Eddie smiles.

"You have no idea who I'm talking about." Alex takes his hand in his. "You're going to be happy baby. We love you and we'll protect you from everything as much as we can."
